Toast is driven by building the restaurant platform that helps restaurants adapt, take control, and get back to what they do best: building the businesses they love.

Are you bready* for a change?

The Data Infrastructure & Performance (DIP) team is responsible for building a platform that enables data-driven decisions and strategy across the organization. We aim to make data as accessible and easy to use as possible via a tech stack that includes Snowflake, Sigma, Hex, Airflow, Stitch, dbt and a Customer Data Platform (CDP).

As a Product Manager of the DIP team, you will support the roadmap and backlog prioritization for three scrum sub-teams (Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering and Data Visualization). Your goal is to add as much business value as possible via a combination of company priorities, stakeholder requests and internal projects. Success is predicated on understanding the business, empathizing with customer pain points (pattern recognition), and identifying valuable work no one is explicitly asking for (surprise and delight).

About this roll* (Responsibilities)

  • Convey your vision through well-researched product requirements, working closely with product leaders and engineers, and participate in all levels of team planning.
  • Synthesize requirements for the Data Infrastructure Team, with a focus on making data more available/discoverable across Toast, as well as increasing revenue across Toast’s customer base.
  • Work cross-functionally and cross-team to understand needs, challenges and workflows.
  • Work with engineering teams to plan sprints, write user stories, and test product features, and manage releases of product features.
  • Facilitate dialogue between technical resources and business stakeholders, with the goal of reducing cycle time in requirements gathering.
  • Prepare executive-level presentations on your product strategy, roadmap, execution, and go-to-market plans.
  • Work closely with Data leadership to help define a long term vision and roadmap for complex customer needs.

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)

  • Prior product experience working as a product manager or owner on an agile data team.
  • Proven experience with the modern data stack (cloud data warehouses, dbt, BI tools, cloud notebooks).
  • Proficient in SQL and knowledgeable about data pipelines and flows.
  • Demonstrated experience taking team strategy into account when making roadmap decisions and effectively communicating those strategic ties to more junior team members.
  • Proven ability to make a meaningful impact on the product strategy through day-to-day product execution and your contributions to the roadmap.
  • Strength in  effectively making adjustments to direction or process to maximize impact for the customer and Toast, and owning those outcomes.
  • Excellent ability to utilize data to anticipate and design products.
  • A proven track record of solving amorphous problems, listening to and organizing large amounts of information into a coherent plan forward, and handling difficult prioritizations.
  •

Special Sauce* (Nice to Haves)

  • Previous experience as a data analyst, data engineer, data scientist or analytics engineer.
  • Knowledge of self-service analytics platforms.
  • Experience with python, dbt, and/or Airflow.
