About this roll* (Responsibilities) 

The Toast Market Insights and Competitive Intelligence team is responsible for understanding the restaurant technology market and competitive landscape, bringing to life the value, differentiation and proof points of our offering. We not only inform key strategic decision making but also enable our sales team to be fluent in key competitive moves. This is a high-impact, high visibility role that will offer leadership exposure, substantial exposure to many different departments and the opportunity to drive long-term shareholder value at a hyper-growth company. On this team, you’ll influence, shape and inform stakeholders on our biggest strategic questions and become an expert in our competitive landscape. The ideal candidate can thrive in becoming an expert in a rapidly changing environment and has experience uncovering and synthesizing competitive insights.

 

As a Senior Analyst on the Market Insights team, your role will span both Market Insights and Competitive Intelligence functions and you will:

  • Provide data-driven insights to inform key strategic decision making across the company, with an emphasis on primary market research, win/loss analyses and competitive strategy & sales enablement
  • Collaborate with teams across the organization (e.g., Marketing, Product,  Sales, Investor Relations etc.) to communicate findings, competitive insights and tell stories to build Toast’s collective knowledge and build assets for sales reps (e.g., battlecards & enablement materials) 
  • Build, test, and deploy surveys from the ground up (including questionnaire design, survey programming, sampling parameters, and data cleaning)
  • Support senior team members in Win/Loss research to drive action across go-to-market and sales leadership
  • Conduct research and analysis on our competitors’ product and GTM strategy to influence strategic decisions across product, product marketing, sales, and more  
  • Develop a deep understanding of our competitors - tear down public statements and financials, do interviews, and get the on-the-ground truth
  • Develop holistic perspectives  of complex questions by combining raw data, primary research (qualitative & quantitative), and secondary research to develop actionable insights and drive business decision making
  • Own large, complex datasets and become the go-to resource for data analysis, cross tabulation, and an array of market research techniques (regression, segmentation, factor analysis, etc.)
  • Leverage various data sources (Salesforce, Sigma, Snowflake, etc.) and be able to extract, transform, and build analyses and data visualizations to help answer critical questions

 

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science and 4+ years of work experience in market research, insights, competitive intelligence, strategy consulting, or similar job role type
  • Highly collaborative mindset; experience working cross-functionally to drive results in a fast-paced environment 
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative research and the ability to synthesize them together to inform strategic decision making
  • Skilled in working with & analyzing large/disparate datasets
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with primary market research (both quantitative and qualitative), survey design, data analysis and marketing analytics tools and techniques
    • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel (Google Sheets) & Powerpoint (Google Slides)
    • Experience with developing surveys via Qualtrics, Survey Monkey, or similar with familiarity of complex survey logic, piping, and dynamic fields
    • Foundational knowledge of statistics
  • Strong writer, presenter, and verbal communicator; ability to build strong, compelling storylines and recommendations that are deeply evidenced in both quantitative and qualitative research to move leadership to action
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple project timelines, internal partners, external partners, and deadlines
  • Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to grow in a fast-paced environment
  • Enthusiasm, and a willingness to explore, grow, and learn

 

Special Sauce* (Nonessential Skills/Nice to Haves)

  • Experience with data visualization and business intelligence tools (Snowflake, Sigma, etc.)
  • Competitive Intelligence experience 
  • Familiarity with Crayon, Salesforce and SQL a plus 
  • Interest and passion for restaurants, tech, and hospitality 
  • A self-starter who thrives when multitasking
