About the Role:

Cars.com is seeking a Senior Analyst, Vehicle and Inventory Data to derive industry and economic insights, risks, and strategic opportunities to help drive decision making across the enterprise. You will leverage and aggregate data sets from public, government, and licensed sources, alongside  internal vehicle, dealer, and user behavior data to develop reports and support analyses. This is a highly collaborative role in which you will partner across the organization to gather and disseminate the information needed. The audience for most deliverables will be director-level to C-suite executives and this position will report to the Principal of Industry and Marketplace Analytics.    

Responsibilities include:

  • Analysis of vehicle inventory data for deeper insights into Cars.com’s customers and the broader auto industry
  • Synthesize vehicle supply, vehicle demand, and clickstream behavioral data to derive insights and measure the influence of vehicle inventory on key Product and Marketing outcomes. Clearly and timely communicate discovered opportunities to internal stakeholders and senior leadership 
  • Ingestion and interpretation of economic and automotive data from disparate sources and data formats. Design automated ingestion processes where possible, using technical skills in Excel/VBA, Python, etc.
  • Maintain database and build entries for vehicle spec and segmentation data
  • Build custom SQL queries to automate and aggregate data sets; integrate into intuitive Tableau dashboards for ad hoc analysis and ongoing reporting
  • Write analysis of findings, and design visualizations and presentation slides for use in internal executive communications

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Analytics, Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in Analytics, Statistics, Economics, or Research in the auto industry
  • Automotive industry experience: institutional knowledge about the US Auto Industry including OEMs, Dealers, other car distribution outlets, digital marketplaces, and leading economic indicators

Required Skills

Intermediate skills and knowledge of the following:

  • Querying and aggregating large data sets using SQL
  • Experience collaborating with Data Engineering teams to facilitate data pipelines from disparate sources into data lake, and knowledge of other data aggregation and ingestion methods for varied use-cases (i.e. Python, Excel VBA, etc.)
  • Data visualization tools such as Tableau (preferred), Power BI, Looker, Domo, or R-Shiny
  • Digital analytics tools such as Adobe Analytics or Google Analytics. Experience working with raw clickstream data a plus (Adobe or Google BigQuery)
