About the Go to Market Analytics Team
Thumbtack’s Go to Market (GTM) Analytics team is charged with providing actionable insights for Thumbtack’s Go-to-Market and Operations teams within the COO org (which include Sales & Success, Customer Support, Experience Operations, Revenue Operations, People Team, Communications and Marketplace Trust & Safety). We collaborate with various groups across the company on a wide variety of projects; everything from click-level data from our online HelpCenter, to call-level data from our outbound sales teams, to search- and transaction-level data between pros and customers from our product database to pulling seasonal project trends and pricing data for publication externally. The Ops Analytics team is part of a global analytics team of more than 60 analysts.
About the Role
As a Senior Data Analyst working on the Business Operations / Communications teams, you will empower various business leaders with the data insights they need to make decisions and raise our profile. This is a hybrid position that works with both our Business Operations team as well as our Communications team so You’ll be involved in scoping, prioritization and execution of tasks related to new company initiatives and programs while also gathering, organizing and presenting insights, trends and predictions for public communication purposes.
Responsibilities
- Become a strong partner with leaders of Thumbtack’s Business Operations and Communications teams to conduct in-depth quantitative analyses that guide strategic decisions and programs.
- Lead ongoing data analysis to help tell the story of Thumbtack as well as the homeowners and small businesses who use our platform. Continue existing programs including our annual Small Business Friendliness Survey, quarterly Home Care Price Index, seasonal Trends Guides, and more.
- Brainstorm, collaborate and create new content for Thumbtack’s external channels and publication including blog posts, press opportunities/releases, social media and more.
- Design and analyze A/B tests and conduct other forms of causal inference to help us rigorously learn about the success of different Business Operations pilot programs
- Quickly build technical and content expertise about our platform, as well as the touch-points through which the operations teams interact with our pros and customers
- Build and maintain models, visualizations, dashboards, and data tables which provide insight into the experiences of our pros and customers
- Identify key drivers of core business and experience outcomes through regression analyses, Machine Learning methods, clustering, and other statistical techniques
Must-Have Qualifications

- BA/BS degree, preferably in Economics, Statistics, Math, or Computer Science
- Passion for using data to drive business impact in an operational environment, including running A/B experiments with operational processes
- Experience analyzing user experience data (both product and survey data), preferably in a technology or marketplace company
- Strong written and verbal communication skills: this role will require writing content and explaining results to internal and external audiences
- Strong experience using SQL to query large datasets, proficiency with data visualization software (e.g. Tableau, Mode), and familiarity with statistics/programming languages (e.g. R, Python)
- Ability to detect and debug data anomalies in complex operational processes and a track record of working with business leaders to drive efficiencies
- Demonstrated ability to self-motivate and drive projects independently as well as partner successfully with cross-functional teams
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Master's degree in Applied Economics, Statistics, Data Science, or related fields
- Familiarity with analytics and processes of other business lanes (such as support, sales & success, or trust-and-safety orgs, communications, marketing, etc.)
- Background in housing/home, small business, labor and urban economics or independent work economics analysis
- Expertise using SQL for data management, visualization tools, survey design tools like Qualtrics, and web programming
Thumbtack is a virtual-first company, meaning you can live and work from any one of our approved locations across the United States, Ontario or the Philippines. When it is safe to gather, we will begin to host in-person events on a regular basis. Remote employees will be expected to travel occasionally for these events to a Thumbtack library or offsite team-building location. Additionally, employees in the San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Toronto and Manila areas will have opt-in access to communal workspace at one of our Thumbtack libraries.
