Job Summary: Owls in this role provide insights and analyses at all stages of our project lifecycles, from earliest prototyping to live engagement with our players. They balance an analytical mindset and technical expertise with a love of diving into data and turning it into meaningful insights.
They are curious and resourceful in adapting their craft to the unique landscape of games and VR, and make excellent partners with Owls at all levels across our creative, accessibility, financial, and live services teams.
- Work closely with C-level and Directors to understand available data, suggest improvements and develop approaches for collecting, analyzing and automating data to inform decision making across technical and business needs.
- Develop and own data pipelines, models, tools, and processes to ensure accurate data collection and analysis.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to provide recommendations for utilizing quantitative and qualitative metrics and key performance indicators to drive technical and business outcomes across business, marketing, financial and development needs.
- Drive discovery of trends in play patterns that help inspire the development of new or improved features and content for our games.
- Partner with marketing and sales to drive ongoing performance analyses of our projects in development, at launch, and beyond
- Support our “Project-Role Framework” methodology with well-designed and comprehensive analyses at all stages of the product lifecycle.
- Use industry best practices to document analysis through different formats including basic data visualization such as graphs, tables, and PowerPoint slides to help communicate the findings.
- Be involved in building automated dashboards and reports to facilitate understanding of business KPIs and player experience
- Stay current with Unity and VR industry trends, development practices, and help ensure distribution of that knowledge throughout the team.
- Experience with data modeling in an applied context.
- Experience with large complex data sets using structured and unstructured data
- Developing methodological approach(s) for data collection and analysis to support business decisions
- Ability to perform data mining, pattern recognition & correlation analysis and insight generation
- Familiarity with statistical and data programming languages such as SQL, PHP, Python, and C++
- Demonstrate critical thinking, provide confidentiality of data, and attention to detail
- Ability to provide clear, concise, accurate communication (both verbal and written) with audiences of varying technical abilities and business contexts
- Ability to research independently, challenge and verify data, and provide recommendations to improve data analysis methodology, with the ability to navigate dependencies and collaborations across projects and stakeholders.
- Collaborative and creative-thinking, team-player mentality with the ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
- Experience with Google or Microsoft spreadsheets and presentation tools
- University Diploma in Statistics, Math, Engineering, Economics, or another quantitative field or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience working as a data analyst
Preferred Education and Experience:
- 2+ years of games industry experience.
- Live-operations games experience
- Knowledge of games, VR or software development lifecycles.
- Technical familiarity with Unity, its analytical capabilities, and backend services.
- Ability to design and develop complex SQL queries and reports to retrieve required data, and troubleshoot data discrepancies
- Experience with Tableau or similar analytical tools
- Appreciation of puns (or at least the ability to groan at them).
Physical Requirements:
- Owls must be able to use virtual reality headsets but are not expected to own one.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time, work from home, 40-hours per week position. Core hours of work are Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. CT.
Travel:
For Owls working outside of the Austin, TX area, travel to Austin may be required 4 to 6 times per year.
