What will I be doing?

As the Senior Data Engineer, you will build a data architecture that supports Analytics, Data Science, Software Engineering, and our Compliance/Regulatory functions' ability to build and optimize products that will position Hilton as an innovative industry leader along with ensuring the appropriate protections to our data. You will apply technical and business ability to transform raw data into useful data systems.

More specifically, you will:

  • Follow technical specifications and product design from published requirements to perform development tasks
  • Develop sophisticated and innovative solutions that support revenue management, marketing, pricing, and management initiatives with limited oversite
  • Apply industry principles, methodologies, and tools throughout the application lifecycle to transform the design specifications into data pipelines that will address customer needs
  • Define and implement testing strategies for these solutions to ensure they align with Hilton standards and provide the appropriate controls and safeguards to ensure the quality and security of our data
  • Transition the final solutions to our Operations team for ongoing support by defining standard operating procedures and conducting knowledge transfer sessions
  • Solve production defects and assist the Operations team with short-term mitigation strategies while you develop and implement a long-term solution
  • Deliver maintenance and improvements for existing software or packaged applications

What are we looking for?
We believe the success in this role will demonstrate itself through the following attributes and skills:

•    Quick learner of new technologies and expansion of skills
•    Hands-on experience in Big Data, Hadoop, data lakes, and AWS cloud services
•    Hands-on experience with Talend and/or Informatica cloud products
•    Experience in RDBMS and Columnar databases including strong SQL and performance tuning the database for large data sets
•    Proficiency with modern Agile development methodologies
•    Strong critical thinking skills ownership mentality and continuous learning
•    Experience in requirement gathering, analysis, design, code review, and Unit and Integration testing
•    Experience with unit testing frameworks and defining test cases
•    Experience implementing solutions in of Data-Lake, Warehouse, Marts, and Master Data environments
•    Phenomenal teammate, interested in sharing knowledge with other team members, and shows curiosity about learning new technologies

To fulfill this role successfully, you should demonstrate the following minimum qualifications:
•    Three (3) years of work experience in Technology or a related field
•    Two (2) years of experience with Big Data technologies and platforms, including but not limited to AWS, Hadoop, Redshift, Spark, and Hive
•    Two (2) years of experience with Java and/or Scala
•    Two (2) years of software/platform design and implementation experience
•    Ability to travel up to 10%

It would be helpful in this position for you to demonstrate the following capabilities and distinctions:
•    Bachelor’s Degree, or Associate’s Degree plus 6+ years of Technology related experience, or High School Degree/GED plus 12+ years of Technology related experience
•    Five (5) + years of work experience in Technology or a related field
•    Exposure to Big Data technologies such as Spark-SQL, Data Frame, Pair RDD's, Spark YARN
•    Any Licenses or Certifications or Training in AWS, Talend, or Informatica
•    Hands-on experience developing ETL jobs (batch and real-time) for structured and unstructured data using Scala, Python, MapReduce, AWS Data Pipeline, AWS Glue, AWS EMR, Apache Kafka, and Airflow
•    Hands-on experience in Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, My SQL, and PostgreSQL
