Job Description

The Senior Data Engineer provides direct support to the Data Science group and the company at large. We are faced with integrating data in real-time from multiple sources via a variety of tools. This necessitates pushing the envelope using existing technologies while also blazing the trail applying novel approaches and technologies.

We are looking for a person with a passion to learn, adapt and help open new doors in data fusion and machine learning. We look for the ability to inspire people with the capabilities offered by innovative approaches to data engineering and streaming technologies. This is an opportunity to be a technical leader as we pioneer novel approaches. Our team is not afraid to submit pull requests to Open-Source projects and be positive contributors to the community.

Job Responsibilities

• Work closely with data scientists and others in transforming their work into scalable production solutions.
• Develop, monitor, and support high-performance stream-processing systems, using frameworks such as Spark-Streaming, Kafka Streams, Pulsar, or Flink.
• Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements (automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.).
• Become familiar with existing big data, development, and database systems at Overstock.com.
• Ensure proper data governance policies are followed by implementing or validating Data Lineage, Quality checks, classification, etc.
• Professional drive towards continuous learning, skill development and technical leadership.
• Perform other duties as required and assigned by manager and upper management.
• Follow legal policies as directed.

Job Requirements

• Experience building, optimizing, and maintaining "big data" data pipelines, architectures and data sets.
• Experience with serverless technologies.
• Advanced data transformation experience using multiple tools and techniques (Lambda, SQL, Java, Python, R, etc.).
• Experience in development of microservices and deploying in Docker / Kubernetes.
• Strong experience with UNIX, Linux and Shell scripting, Python, JavaScript, and JSON
• Experience with data pipeline, workflow management, and CI/CD tools, such as: Airflow, Luigi, SaltStack, Puppet, or CloudFormation.
• Experience with Graph technologies such as TinkerPop is a plus.
• Web development should not be a dark art as we support an e-commerce site and we want to democratize our tool sets.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or any related field or combination of education and/or experience based on the table above is required.

Base Pay Range:

$105,000.00  -  $131,000.00  per year

Physical Requirements:

This position requires you to sit, stand and perform general office functions. You may also be required to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. Bending, stooping and reaching are also frequently required.
