About the job
The Sr. Data Scientist will be an experienced and inquisitive player/coach who is able to develop and run with data-centered projects. You will be working closely with the Head of Data Science and other key functional groups to help realize the data science strategy and vision which supports Banjo Health’s overall goal of reducing the burden of prior authorizations. Your work will directly influence Banjo Health’s ability to provide cutting edge solutions to key stakeholders within PBMs, Health Plans, Providers, and other healthcare customer segments. Using artificial intelligence & machine learning, natural language processing, and other methodologies, we will ensure that patients receive treatments in a timely and appropriate way.
Requirements
Position responsibilities:
Train, test and validate machine learning models to predict prior authorization (PA) decisions and explain recommendations.
Utilize NLP and deep learning techniques to solve problems across the Banjo suite, examples of which may include generating decision trees from prior authorization requirements, building medical question and answer systems, or improving medical search capabilities within a patient’s medical record.
Produce precision, recall, f1 scores, and ROI curves to demonstrate model improvement.
Develop rich feature encodings for Prior Authorization use cases.
Work closely with our partners in Engineering to bring models into production-grade settings
Provide Data Science support on pilot studies investigating new medical decision making processes.
Collaborate cross-functionally to scope problems and provide informed and practical data science recommendations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Experience with a wide range of data formats and standards such as FHIR, EDI, XML, JSON.
A track record of successfully applying data science techniques to solve challenging problems.
Strong knowledge of supervised modeling techniques such as logistic regression, decision trees, SVM, neural networks.
Working knowledge of established and emerging NLP strategies.
Experience writing useful, maintainable, production-grade Python code.
Experience building end-to-end data pipelines from ETL to model training and testing to deployment.
A passion for collaborating and sharing knowledge in both technical and non-technical settings.
Dynamic, collaborative, and entrepreneurial spirit with a “get it done” mentality.
High growth company and/or startup experience is strongly preferred.
Prior experience working with medical records data, healthcare systems, medical decision making or Prior Authorization processes.
Experience with knowledge graphs or ontologies, bonus points if you’ve worked with UMLS in the past preferred.
Bonus points if you have direct experience working within a payer on utilization management or an organization supporting payers on utilization management.
Education requirements:
BS, MS, Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics or related discipline.
