About the role:

As an early member of Canopy AI’s Data Science team, you’ll reinforce and improve our data-driven culture while embedding directly with Product teams and company leadership. This is a generalist role, and you should expect to work on everything from ML modeling to rigorous A/B testing to data visualization. Most importantly, you will be a core member of the product development team, working on Canopy AI’s most-impactful

If you’ve been a founder yourself, or a member of an early-stage startup, you’ll feel right at home with the amount of ownership you’ll be expected to take on.

This role is fully remote.

Responsibilities:

• Leverage your business and technical knowledge to help shape the company roadmap
• Identify business problems & product ideas, with a clear perspective on the level of polish required (MVP vs. full product, etc…)
• Deliver high-quality data work in an iterative, small-batch manner. Shorter cycle times == faster feedback
• Enhance our data-driven culture through direct coaching, tooling, and workshops
• Visualize data in meaningful ways, and create data tools for use within & outside Canopy AI

Requirements:

• 7+ years of software engineering experience (including internships)
• Analytical, strategic, and creative thinker with a proven track record of pragmatically solving problems
• Strong programming skills, comfortable with Python, SQL, and (ideally) R, as well as relational databases and basic web-development
• Excellent business acumen
• Have a humble attitude, a love for learning, an eagerness to help your colleagues, and a desire to do whatever it takes to make the team succeed
• Care deeply about the end user experience and take pride in building products to solve customer needs

Canopy AI was originally founded in 2013 in Cambridge, MA as Admissions Hero (later CollegeVine) and reaches over 20 million families annually in search of guidance. Our roots are in delivering near-peer mentorship at scale, which has since evolved to delivering lifelong guidance through AI and a vast professional network. We have raised over $66m in venture funding from dedicated investors such as Morningside Technology Ventures (Xiaomi, TikTok), the founding partner of 5Y Capital, Fidelity, University Ventures, and more. In 2020, after years of being a remote-friendly company, Canopy became a fully remote company centered on Eastern Time with a diverse cast of team members based predominantly in the United States, but also around the world.
