Overview
We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to design and build out data science solutions to enable our AI-based products which use advanced knowledge of ML and engineering to accelerate innovation in K-12 education. The perfect candidate will have strong skills in machine learning, NLP, and statistics with a good understanding of applying Generative AI in various use cases, a proven track record of collaborating and iteratively implementing data-intensive solutions, strong operational skills to drive efficiency and speed, and effective project leadership. You will be a part of a fast-growing team. You will educate stakeholders, mentor team members, and have a significant stake in defining the future of our AI based products.
Responsibilities

- Design, build, and maintain statistical, NLP, machine learning and deep learning models to solve problems in personalized learning, recommendation, better outcomes for students, teachers and education
- Work closely with machine learning and data engineers to build out machine learning and LLM driven AI solutions incrementally and securely
- Champion MLOps best practices
- Work closely with the product management and development teams to rapidly translate the understanding of customer data and requirements to product and solutions
- Brainstorm new ideas in K-12 education space and design POCs quickly
- Maintain an excellent understanding of the business’s long-term goals and strategy and ensures that the design and architecture are aligned with these
- Research and experiment with emerging technologies, tools and use cases related to Generative AI and LLM
- Adhere to software engineering best practices including continuous delivery and version control
Nice to Have’s
- Ability to deal with scenarios where there is lack of data and use case ambiguity especially related to new product or feature
- Ability to work with team members in different time zones globally
- Experience with various cloud tools (AWS and Azure tools) and models at scale
- Experience with Sagemaker pipeline or Sagemaker Projects
- Experience in topic modeling, NER, probabilistic language models, transformer-based language models, LLM
- Experience working with Ethical values, Explainability, Bias/Sensitivity of AI
Qualifications
To be considered for and to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Qualifications include:
- Nuanced understanding of modern Deep Learning language representation techniques with the ability to design and implement novel Deep Learning solutions
- Mastery of Tensorflow/Pytorch/Keras frameworks for implementing and optimizing deep learning algorithms for training quality and serving performance
- Exposure to industry, open source or academic research, particularly in deep learning, NLP and LLMs
- Deep understanding of many different quality metrics (MRR, F1, NDCG, Recall/Precision, etc.) and the tradeoffs of each with the ability to design ensemble metrics that correlate to business KPIs
- Strong algorithms, data structures, and coding background with primarily, Python or Java, C++, or Scala programming experience
- Experience with software engineering standard methodologies (unit testing, code reviews, design document, continuous delivery)
- Ability to conceptualize and articulate ideas clearly and concisely
- A great team player who can bend his/her ways to help the team as needed
- Extensive experience with advanced AI/ML techniques concerning ranking, recommendation and personalization (e.g., natural networks/deep learning, reinforcement learning, A/B testing, Natural Language Processing, Generative AI, etc.)
- Experience with applying Reinforcement Learning in production scenarios is a plus.
- Preferably PhD or Masters in Computer Science, Math, Physics, or other technical fields with 7+ years of experience

A reasonable estimate of the base compensation range for this position is $110,000 – $140,000. The compensation range is specific to the United States and incorporates many factors including but not limited to an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience and training; licensures, degrees, and certifications; internal equity; internal pay ranges; and market data/range parameters.
