About the Data Science Team
The Data Science team empowers Thumbtack to use data to guide business decisions. We collaborate with partners across the company to solve the most analytically challenging problems -- everything from informing how we set prices across almost a thousand local services categories, to evaluating the impact of a new business model on company performance, to identifying early predictors of high-quality customers. We are a tight-knit, intellectually curious team that is committed to improving Thumbtack and improving each other.
About the Role
As a data scientist on the customer growth team, you will collaborate closely with a world class cross-functional team (including product managers, engineers, designers, marketers, etc.) in developing new product features and launching lifecycle marketing campaigns. You will derive insights from data, inform decision-decision making, and influence product strategy and roadmap, empower the team to build the best product and experience for Thumbtack’s customers.
Responsibilities
- Design and analyze experiments for customer growth team.
- Propose and conduct analysis into user behaviors, product flows, and business trends; based on the analysis, identify new opportunities and influence strategy and roadmap of the customer growth team
- Define metrics to guide the team’s initiatives and measure the team’s success; track and investigate changes in metrics and propose action plans
- Scope data requirements and collaborate with data engineers in building and improving data infrastructure
- Develop domain expertise of the team you are on, e.g., what are the main drivers of Thumbtack customer acquisition, etc.
- Contribute to our team and company data culture through peer collaboration, training, coaching, and more
What you’ll need

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, preferably in Statistics, Math, Economics, Engineering, or other STEM fields
- 3+ years of experience in a highly analytical role, preferably in tech analytics or data science and proficiency using SQL and Python to analyze large data sets
- Proficiency in statistical concepts and their applications (in A|B testing, causal inference, regression, etc.), and ability to explain them to non-technical audience
- Exemplary analytical problem solving skills, strong business acumen, and the ability to identify and synthesize insights from analysis
- Strong communicator, attentive listener, and compelling storyteller
- Impact-driven, self-driven, and strong ownership
- Ability to collaborate with people with diverse backgrounds and build relationships

- Experience working on a two-sided marketplace
- Proficient in Looker

For candidates living in San Francisco / Bay Area, New York City, or Seattle metros, the expected salary range for the role is currently $140,250 - $181,500. Actual offered salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as calibrated job level, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
For candidates living in all other US locations, the expected salary range for this role is currently $119,212.50 - $154,275. Actual offered salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as calibrated job level, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
