Job Description
The Financial Crimes Technology Data team at Cash App detects and reports financial crimes activity on Cash App. We work globally with partners in Compliance, business, engineering, and product to guarantee we are providing a safe user experience for our customers while minimizing or eliminating bad activity on our platform.
We are applying Data Science as an integral part of our toolkit to fulfill our mission. As Cash App scales, we are monitoring billions of dollars in transactions across traditional payment and blockchain networks. We uncover and put an end to money laundering, suspicious, and illegal activities before they impact our users. We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join our team with the goal of identifying impactful problems worth solving, defining and tracking the metrics that measure the success of the team, communicating team progress to stakeholders and leadership, and providing deep dive analytical support to our partners. You will be fully remote and report into our Foundational Compliance Financial Crimes Technology Lead.
You will:
- Define, build, and track metrics that demonstrate health of the Compliance program
- Track the impact of the data team in optimizing Compliance operations
- Communicate our work with team leads, partners and business leaders
- Defining the Risk Based Framework followed by quantifying and tracking our platform risk over time
- Modeling the cost to Compliance for new Product Launches to aid in timely operational capacity planning
- Implement and automate case volume forecasting to aid the annual and quarterly Operations capacity planning exercise
- Manage & deliver ad hoc analyses and deep dive investigations for poorly defined, but important business problems that aid in decision making
- Build deep connections and trust with Compliance Operations, Compliance Analytics and Product teams, and the Health team
Qualifications
Required:
- Masters degree in a STEM related field with 2+ years of relevant work experience; OR a bachelor's degree in a STEM related field with 4+ years of relevant work experience
- Advanced proficiency with SQL, Python DS data stack (e.g. numpy, pandas, matplotlib), visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Looker), and exposure working with production code
- Experience conducting deep-dive analysis (e.g. casual impact analysis) and data forecasting
- Experience communicating with and presenting to non-technical partners
- Ability to influence and build strong relationships with business and product partners
- Have a curious, passionate, growth-oriented mindset
Preferred:
Experience working with machine learning models

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Zone A: USD $152,100 - USD $185,900
Zone B: USD $144,500 - USD $176,700
Zone C: USD $136,900 - USD $167,300
Zone D: USD $129,300 - USD $158,100
