  • Advocate for quality and short feedback cycles by leveraging continuous integration, automated build and release processes, and structured development workflow

  • Partner with other product engineering teams, functions, or business units to craft the right solutions and execution plan, manage expectations, and keep strategies aligned

You may be a good fit if:

  • You have at least 3 years of engineering management experience and a strong background as a software engineer prior to that

  • You have successfully recruited and built great teams

  • You have managed teams that successfully delivered and operated a data platform; bonus if you’ve done this using cloud-native, modern data stack tooling and infrastructure

  • You have enabled successful collaborations across engineering teams and have a knack for bringing engineers together to work on projects

  • You work very well cross-functionally and can think rigorously, communicate effectively, and make hard decisions and tradeoffs

  • You can jump in as needed to assist technically with code reviews and design discussions

  • You have experience with distributed systems and event-driven architectures

  • You have exposure to modern data stack tools such as dbt, Fivetran, and BigQuery; bonus if you have a good understanding of SQL and data modeling

  • You know the different storage mechanisms, like relational, columnar, and key-value stores

  • You have passion for the Times’ mission and desire to join us at the moment in history where our data has the power to transform every aspect of the creation and practice of journalism
