Job Description

The Personalization Machine Learning (PML) team strives to create a personalized experience on Cash App and Afterpay by tailoring recommendations and search ranking results for our customers. Our team is continuing to grow and we’re looking for ML Engineers who are excited about building thoughtful software and solving interesting problems. Our problems span many technologies, from server-side development and machine learning pipelines to web. 

Our ML Engineers work in close collaboration with Data Scientists, ML Modelers and Software Engineers, Product and Design from across Cash App.  Across the team, we employ methods ranging from simple heuristics to Deep Learning technology to build better ranking and recommendation solutions.  Check out our Machine Learning / AI blog here! You will:

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable ML recommendation systems that enable us to provide tailored recommendations to our 40+ million users
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable ML ranking systems that enable us to personalize search experience for our 40+ million users
  • Collaborate cross functionally with many teams to make technical, design, strategy, and product decisions
  • Mentor and coach other engineers on the team 

Qualifications

You have:

  • 5+ years of experience in building highly scalable systems and demonstrated technical initiative and leadership on previous projects. Prior experience in building ML Systems for recommendations and ranking is helpful but not required
  • Experience helping your teammates grow through mentorship and providing constructive feedback
  • Experience or knowledge in ML is helpful but not a prerequisite: if you are a solid software engineer, then we are happy to train you up on ML-specific parts of the role
  • Be able to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical people across different teams
  • Curiosity and a passion for Cash App's mission of economic empowerment

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $167,300 - USD $204,500
Zone B: USD $158,900 - USD $194,300
Zone C: USD $150,600 - USD $184,000
Zone D: USD $142,200 - USD $173,800
