About the Role:
The Data Pipeline team is seeking a technical lead for the PlanetScope data pipeline. PlanetScope is a daily monitoring constellation that has been collecting an image of every point on the Earth’s landmass every day since 2017. It is still the only constellation capable of daily coverage. The Data Pipeline Team processes millions of images every day from our satellites into imagery data products used in customer and internal workflows. You will design, build and improve components and processes of the data pipeline to deliver world class imagery products to our customers. Impact You’ll Own:
- Lead a tight-knit team to continually improve the data processing pipeline for Planet’s PlanetScope daily coverage satellite constellation
- Ensure rigorous customer specifications for image quality, processing speed, and data product quality are met
- Collaborate with engineering manager and other senior engineers to set priorities and staffing
- Troubleshoot field quality issues
- Participate in an on-call rotation in support of Pipeline operations
What You Bring:
- 10+ years of experience writing software to manipulate geospatial data
- Extensive knowledge of GDAL and other open-source GIS tools
- Experience writing production code in Python
- Knowledge of how to scale code with cloud computing resources, e.g. AWS or GCP
- Experience leveraging scientific computing using Python in a Unix/Linux environment
- A passion for Programming, Photography, Remote Sensing, Earth Sciences, and Geography
What Makes You Stand Out:
- Experience writing production code in C++
- Experience with existing and evolving standards for representing geospatial data on the web
