About Opendoor:
Are you intrigued by the thought of disrupting a trillion dollar industry through technology? At Opendoor, we’re on a mission to make it simple to buy and sell homes. The traditional process is broken, with an average home taking over 90 days to sell and costing thousands of dollars. We empower everyone with the freedom to move by making buying and selling a home stress-free and instant. We’ve built an exceptional team, seen strong growth, served nearly 78,000 customers (with an annual run rate of $5 billion), and raised $1.3 billion in funding. With Covid-19, the world is changing, and real estate is no exception. The coming years present a tremendous opportunity for innovation as we explore new frontiers and scale nationwide.

About the Role:
The Acquisition Modeling team develops the core models and ML infrastructure that we use to make key decisions at Opendoor. We’re responsible for researching models and understanding every driver of our business that impacts our cost structure and scalability.

Your responsibilities will include:

    • Working with product,  data science, and engineering teams to contribute to all phases of algorithm development including: ideation, prototyping, design, and production
    • Designing and developing scalable platforms/processes for model training, feature extraction, continuous learning, simulation, and A/B testing
    • Valuing homes by contributing to and maintaining OVM (Opendoor Valuation Model), an ensemble of models that generates home price predictions on over 5 million homes a week and is directly responsible for hundreds of millions of dollars worth of transactions a month—often without any human oversight.
    • Extracting features from raw data (such as text and images) using NLP and CV
    • Creating and maintaining production systems that provide insight into the uptime and stability of our models
    • Projecting and forecasting sale/resale timelines and prices for Opendoor homes
    • Researching and optimizing the strategies that impact our profit margins on a per home basis
    • Building deep domain expertise in pricing and real estate
    • Playing an active role in hiring and mentoring other engineers

We're looking for teammates who have:

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience
    • Passion for building reliable machine learning products and infrastructure
    • 3+ years of relevant experience
    • Experience in technologies related to our work, e.g., Python, Spark, Pandas, PyTorch, and SQL
    • Experience developing and pushing production code as part of an engineering team
    • The ability and desire to communicate with clarity and precision
    • Resourcefulness and pragmatism
    • Familiarity with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, Keras, or Tensorflow (we use PyTorch!)
    • An interest in geospatial data and spatiotemporal algorithms
