Senior/Staff Data Engineer

Biobot is looking for a high-performing, experienced Senior Data Engineer to help our team build out a proprietary analytics platform for deriving insights into wastewater-based epidemiological data. You will work with a diverse team of software engineers, data scientists, and bioinformaticians to build and ship AI- and ML-based analytical and predictive models that help our customers make decisions that improve public health.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (What you will be doing):

    • Contributing to design and implementation of a centralized data model that underlies all of our internal and external analytics and AI/ML data features
    • Building tools and frameworks for other engineering and data science  team members to utilize the centralized data model, and to build and deploy ML models on top of it
    • Orchestrating data flow from customer inputs through centralized systems into the data warehouse in a reliable way that maintains data governance
    • Supporting partner teams on Data Science and Software Engineering where needed to debug, maintain and continuously improve existing data infrastructure

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements (What you need to succeed):

    • BS in Computer Science, Data Analytics, or related, plus 5 years of industry experience, or equivalent
    • Expert in Snowflake, or related warehousing framework(s)
    • Expert understanding of dimensional data modeling
    • Expert in writing SQL, including use of stored procedures, triggers, views etc
    • Expert in one or more programming languages (Python, Scala, etc.)
    • Expert in ETL, or related, processes to move and transform data between platforms
    • Experience with cloud compute providers (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.)
    • Experience analyzing and optimizing query runtimes
    • Experience with CI/CD and common development workflows (Git, code reviews, etc.) for building data models
    • Experience with writing tests for, and validating, data models

Education and/or Work Experience Bonuses (What will help you succeed):

    • Experience with AI/ML frameworks and model deployment
    • Experience working in a startup environment
    • Experience with dbt
    • Experience with python
    • Experience working with dimensional data models
    • Experience working with scientific, geographic, demographic and/or wastewater data

Physical Requirements and Special Demands:

    • Remote requirements: Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone and video conferencing for several hours each day.

Temp-to-Perm Information:

    • We invite applications for candidates interested in a temp-to-perm role with an initial estimated duration of 3 months. This temporary position holds the potential for a seamless transition into a regular full-time role based on performance and organizational needs.

Compensation Information:

    • We welcome applications from a diverse range of candidates, spanning from Senior Data Engineer to Staff Data Engineer levels.   Compensation will be determined based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications.
    • The salary range for this position varies based on level, with the Senior Data Engineer band ranging from $120,000 - $160,000 and the Staff Data Engineer band ranging from $160,000 - $190,000, depending on prior work experience. These ranges represent the low and high end of the anticipated base salary range for this position.
    • Actual base salary will depend on numerous factors such as: total experience, applicable knowledge and relevant skills. Final salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s leveling upon offer.
