Job Summary:

The Studio Technology group at Walt Disney Studios comprises intentional teams providing scalable, secure, and innovative technology solutions to enable the present and future of cinematic storytelling.

As part of the Studio’s Data Services team, you’d join passionate, focused technologists who solve crucial problems within the dynamic and expanding media industry. We store, analyze, report, and visualize data and insights for everything from the financial engines that keep the Studio running to marketing and consumer applications that touch millions of people, to production data that supports the creation of Disney's wide array of films and series. We’re looking for a Sr. Data Engineer to help us grow the impact of our team.

Location: Glendale/Burbank or Remote

Responsibilities:

  • Join a small team of multi-disciplined engineers to create advanced Data systems
  • Drive data pipeline development with and for analytics and data science partner teams
  • Build tools and services to support data discovery, lineage, governance, and privacy
  • Collaborate with other software/data engineers and cross-functional teams
  • Influence and drive software engineering and architecture best practices and standards within the team and wider organization, in a culture of quality and invention

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Proficient with Python or Scala (preferably both!)
  • Proven track record engineering big-data solutions (Databricks, EMR, Spark)
  • Deep experience deploying and running cloud-based data solutions (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Strong problem solver; able to resolve production issues through the data pipeline
  • Ability to dive deep into any technical component, and drive systems architecture
  • You care deeply about craftsmanship in your software, and you love testing
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience building data pipelines using streaming tools (Kinesis, Kafka, Flink)
  • Familiarity with workflow scheduler tools such as Airflow
  • Experience in service development using Java/Kotlin/Scala
  • Experience with relational databases, SQL, and NoSQL storage
  • Data architecture (schemas, migration, and cross-system integration)
