As the Vice President of the Data & Analytics team, you will lead the team of data engineers, business intelligence analysts, and data scientists, reporting to the VP of Business Operations and Analytics under the COO.  You will be in charge of driving new data governance across DigitalOcean, and enabling better and faster business insights overall to drive revenue growth and capital efficiency. This individual will be an experienced and exceptional cross-functional leader who loves driving change within an organization and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

What You’ll Be Doing: 

  • Manage DigitalOcean’s data engineering, business intelligence analysts, and data scientists. 
  • This role will be player-coach, but primarily coach. You will be managing team members while steering the path of our data programs.
  • Establish our data governance program; lead the data governance council and drive unity across our data policies and processes
  • Hire, develop, and retain exceptionally talented people with diverse data science skills, giving them the autonomy and guidance to best deliver our business outcomes
  • Establish relationships and effective communications with other executives to drive outcomes and ensure scientific method and research drive the product roadmap
  • The VP of Data & Analytics will drive greater understanding and transparency of business drivers, highlight key trends, and act as a resource for improving data proficiency throughout the organization
  • Partner with department leads to develop innovation and pilots for initiatives and projects that have an impact on growth, retention, and customer experience
  • Manage and maintain the complete delivery cycle of analytics deliverables, including integrated dashboards and ad-hoc requests
  • Develop financial models to forecast the impact of internal actions and external factors on DigitalOcean’s KPIs
  • Leverage historical data and predictive models to identify key historical factors that impact key KPIs, and recommend actions to drive future performance

What You'll Add to DigitalOcean: 

  • Prior experience managing a team of direct reports within the Data Science, Data Engineering, Analytics space, etc
  • ​​Bachelor's degree in a technical field (i.e Computer Science, Engineering, Math, etc.) or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience
  • Significant Experience building, motivating and retaining a high performing, flexible and collaborative data and analytics function
  • Demonstrated aptitude in translating data into actionable insights that help define strategic direction, provide clear insights, and inform outcomes
  • You display a positive attitude and are adept at getting things done while managing stakeholder expectations across the organization
  • Prior experience in a role that involved regular engagement with internal customers
  • A proven hands-on technical background in data science, business intelligence or data engineering with demonstrated strategic impact at an executive level and the scale of industry
  • A strong problem solver with experience building technical strategy and understanding technical tradeoffs and risk
  • Develop ways-of-working and drive decision making across multiple teams and locations; clear, consistent and concise communications are table stakes
  • Ability to influence and work through others where direct reporting relationships do not exist
  • You are truly a “do-er”, willing to get hands-on solving any problems needed to help the data program move forward
