Analytics Director – Learning, Impact and Design
Flexible Location
TNTP seeks a full-time Analytics Director to join TNTP’s Learning, Impact, and Design team. This position may be based in a home office anywhere in the U.S., and is available immediately. Travel up to 20% for this position is required.
Who We Are
A national nonprofit founded by teachers, TNTP believes our nation’s public schools can offer all children an excellent education. Today we’re a diverse team from a wide range of fields, united by a fierce commitment to helping school systems end educational inequality. We work at every level of the public education system to attract and train talented teachers and school leaders, ensure rigorous and engaging classrooms, and create environments that prioritize great teaching and accelerate student learning.
The Learning, Impact, and Design (LID) Division is dedicated to supporting TNTP to become a smarter learning organization, able to tell the story of our impact so that we can more effectively help students achieve their aspirations by increasing their access to teachers with high expectations, grade appropriate assignments, strong instruction and deep engagement. Within LID, the Impact team ensures that we systematically measure our reach and impact through a strong, data-based approach to continuous improvement, and that we provide high-quality data analytic work to our clients.
What You’ll Do
As an Analytics Director, you will partner with internal and external clients and project teams to design and implement customized solutions that ensure they can effectively use the data they have available to them to tell effective data stories, learn what’s working, and ultimately improve students’ experiences. Specific project assignments vary in scope, duration, and depth – but all will require the Analytics Director to independently tackle complex challenges with innovative and nuanced solutions and persuade internal and external clients to embrace continuous learning and, at times, new approaches to solving old problems.
On any given day, this role may be asked to:
Develop and apply research methodologies to meet TNTP business needs (e.g., validate instruments’ properties, assess TNTP tools and systems as predictors of student outcomes, create new analytic models for evaluating programs and teachers/school leaders, etc.)
Create compelling data stories using analysis to support our partners in improving students’ experiences and outcomes.
Review external research to support staff and clients in making research-based decisions for their work.
Support internal and external clients to use continuous improvement methods and learning approaches to improve their outcomes.
When needed, represent TNTP in the external research community
We are looking for amazing people who have diverse backgrounds and experiences, are inspired by our mission and are highly motivated to change children’s lives through education. You’ll be right at home here if you learn from failure and overcome adversity, cultivate strong relationships, understand the power of diversity, advocate for equity, aspire to lead through inclusion, and push yourself, your work and the people around you to the next level.
We expect our Analytics Directors to:
Innovate and implement solutions to complex challenges. You have a history of engaging with high stakes challenges directly and successfully. Ambiguity doesn’t overwhelm you; just the opposite, you thrive on it. Your creative instincts will help you deal with vague situations and develop new approaches with limited guidance.
Conduct research that drives meaningful learning and change. You’ll regularly support our staff and partners to answer research questions and measure the impact of their work.
Influence leaders to act. You’ll regularly interact with, and be expected to influence, high level clients at the district and school levels – motivating them to implement both small and significant recommendations.
Have stage presence. We’re counting on your strong public presentation skills and ability to provide thoughtful and compelling insights in settings small and large, formal and informal.
Sweat the details. You’ll use your strong organizational and project management skills to execute and move our work toward ambitious goals.
Take a systems approach to improving student learning. You can look at a variety of data and draw conclusions, at the school and district level, and design systems-level strategies to improve instruction and advance equitable student outcomes.
Build relationships. You have the ability to connect and build relationships with diverse communities. Bilingual abilities are a plus, Spanish language preferred.
Qualifications
Advanced in most data science workflow competencies
Well-versed in external research & methods and can translate them to an applied setting to strengthen TNTP’s work
Proficiency in advanced statistical models commonly used in education research.
Proficiency in statistical programming using R (preferred) or another programming software
Strong written and oral communication skills: you share the appropriate amount, at the appropriate level for the audience, in a clear and compelling way.
Experience leading a research team to produce applied research or program evaluation results for clients
Ability to credibly represent TNTP, its research agenda, and research findings externally (as needed)
Advanced degree in a related field (preferred)
