The Global Retail Markets (GRM) Product Pricing Sophistication research team mission is to discover and provide new ways to advance the sophistication of our price modeling and ignite innovation across Product, Design and Modeling and Global product design. The team is seeking a skilled and experienced data scientist to work as an individual contributor, with focus on machine learning engineering (MLE), to lead and support research projects.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working effectively with highly talented professionals to develop creative solutions to complex problems, be comfortable with data handling, modeling, coding, deployment and have an appreciation of what makes sense from a business standpoint. We are looking for data scientists, with focus on machine learning engineering, that are comfortable with model deployment and monitoring at scale. Solid technical skills with machine learning engineering are critical to the role, and the individual we hire will work very closely with the team and business stakeholders as we work to test and implement new ideas.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of research models for business use cases.
  • Research the latest advancements in the field of MLE and MLOps and help keep the team on the cutting edge for the field.
  • Help establishes project plans, ensures quality deliverables within agreed upon timeframes, communicates results and makes recommendations to address issues
  • Provides strategic input and thought partnership on complex projects and business issues
  • Collaborates with analytical peers and counterparts across Liberty Mutual and GRM to stay on top of business trends and analytical best practices
  • Collaborates to identify new strategic opportunities for use of theoretical methods and tools. Applies forward-looking thinking to inform methodological advancement. Drives innovation in the application and development of tools and practices.
  • Translates quantitative analyses and findings into accessible visuals for non-technical audiences, providing a clear view into interpreting the data.
  • Enables the business to make clear trade-offs between and among choices, with a reasonable view into likely outcomes.
  • Responsible for larger components of highly complex projects. Guides aspects of project design as a technical consultant for the team. 
  • Customizes analytic solutions to specific client needs.
  • Regularly engages with the data science community and leads cross-functional working groups.

Ideal candididate will have: 

  • Proven engineering and analytical skills, as normally acquired through an advanced degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering, and 2+ years of relevant experience, or may be acquired through a bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong demonstrated background in programming (Python highly preferred) for Machine Learning/Deep Learning models with the ability to build, deploy and monitor models of moderate complexity outside of academic setting.
  • Proven track record in participation and project management of modeling projects. Ability to exercise discretion and apply independent judgment and well-developed critical thinking skills in innovation, problem solving and execution of projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to exchange ideas and convey complex information clearly and concisely to technical and business leaders, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and build effective relationships within and across functional groups
