The Position

Who We Are:

We are a pioneer team of critical thinking engineers and data analysts that develop models to predict accurate capacity needs for the future of Twitter's infrastructure.

We build prediction models for short and long-term capacity projections and regularly engage with senior management and partners across the company to understand the drivers of infrastructure capacity, and turn that understanding into predictive models that drive critical strategic decisions.

We highly value statistical modeling approaches, but also recognize the limitations of this approach and balance traditional data science approaches with modeling practices and business expertise.

What You'll Do:

  • Use predictive analytics through modeling data to forecast capacity, identify optimization opportunities, influence business partners, and drive effective decision making.
  • Spend much of your time programming, including model development and analytics projects using R (Python for some applications if desired) in addition to regularly using G-sheets for analysis.
  • Establish a 12-18 month capacity plan and coordinate the execution of this plan with the delivery team.
  • Transform the current annual ordering process from an annual to quarterly fulfillment.
  • Collaborate with supply chain, finance and datacenter engineering to lead capacity supply signals and work cross-functionally to ensure their needs are met while also within cost efficiency balance.
  • Collaborate to understand service constraints (e.g. data locality, response times, networking, etc.) to coordinate the best capacity plan.
  • Recommend plan to optimize systems investment, allocation and deployment.
  • Conduct “what-if” simulations and proactively identify potential capacity issues and partner with product and service owners to minimize risk and reduce cost-to-serve.
  • Develop a framework to supervise the cost and value of various features/products to support Infra budget/capacity allocation decisions.
  • Own, improve, and drive the capacity demand intake and delivery processes across the capacity ecosystem.
  • Drive overall planning work for different products/services and recommend DC expansion plan.
  • Demonstrate capacity analysis expertise to develop and communicate meaningful insights, including capacity utilization, health metrics, and key indicators.
  • Deliver solution design specifications and technical requirements for the development and improvement of capacity planning tools and automation.
  • Aid with data management, collection, sanitization, normalization, querying, and storage of capacity data.
  • Build and deliver impactful presentations that tell a persuasive story with convictive insights, not just data.

Qualifications

Who You Are:

  • A specialist in forecasting and predictive modeling, who enjoys solving intricate and unstructured problems.
  • You love working on large datasets to generate knowledge on behaviors and trends and have diverse interests and skill sets covering data analysis, statistical modeling, business strategy, and data visualization!
  • You excel at communicating sophisticated insights to both technical and non- technical partners.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across different functions and optimally influence senior business partners.

Requirements:

  • We are seeking 2+ year experience with infrastructure capacity planning and/or engineering.
  • BS required, in Data Science, Engineering, Hard Sciences, Statistics, Applied Math, Financial Modeling, or other quantitative fields. (MS+ strongly preferred)
  • Outstanding modeling and analytics skills with strength in R.
    (Python experience is a plus)

Company Description
