The Position

Who We Are

At Twitter, we work on some of the world’s largest distributed systems -- our core infrastructure receives hundreds of millions of Tweets per day and serves tens of billions of API requests, all with an uptime over 99.9%. Our other systems operate at a similarly staggering scale: we serve over 2+ billion search queries per day, render hundreds of millions of ad impressions, process hundreds of terabytes of log and interaction data daily to drive billions in bottom-line revenue.

The Data Management Organization (DMO) is chartered with making data discoverable, usable, and compliant. We shape Twitter’s data strategy through cutting-edge tools and services and by managing Twitter’s end to end data lifecycle. As a member of this team, your work will be central to driving progress in privacy, security, and customer trust, through impactful insights that identify corrective, preventive, and growth opportunities.

What You'll Do

DO YOU ❤️ #METADATA?

The Data Manager understands the true value of data in an organization, crafting and implementing data lifecycle processes and tools in collaboration with partners from Legal, Security, Engineering and Product teams from across Twitter. The ideal candidate is passionate about enterprise data architecture, data quality, privacy and data protection, and has a knack for influencing others using facts and insights.

Example activities include:

  • Analyze policies to define standards and rules
  • Articulate business, functional and technical requirements
  • Promote adoption of standards and remediations
  • Drive partner consensus
  • Launch solutions that improve data productivity and efficiency
  • Streamline workflows for existing tools and technology
  • Analyze how data flows around the organization and how this impacts the humans who work with data
  • Build reports and dashboards to help non-technical users get information out of data
  • Explore data to identify and explain anomalies

Collaboration

  • Team oriented; incorporate feedback quickly and seamlessly
  • Self-starter who is looking to lead and advise rather than be told how to complete tasks
  • Seek and navigate ambiguous problems
  • Treat people well -- disagree without being disagreeable
  • Work well across disciplines, e.g. Legal, Engineering, and Product
  • Lead partners across the company in the maintenance of the data platforms used for internal and external reporting
  • Bring domain expertise to data governance working groups and management committees

Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and graphic communication skills, with the ability to address both technical and non-technical audiences in the same context
  • Project / program management, product road-mapping, functional requirements gathering, prioritization / Product Ownership
  • Ability to assess technical shared service environments, identify problem areas, champion continuous improvement initiatives and drive innovation
  • Positive, momentum-building evangelization with business and engineering partners
  • General data analysis skills (SQL, spreadsheets, visualization)
  • Experience with both operational and project responsibilities
