Code.org® is a nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to computer science in schools and increasing participation by young women and students from other underrepresented groups. The Research, Evaluation, and Data Team is a small, collaborative unit that serves the analytics needs of the organization.  Every member of the team contributes to, and collaborates on:

• Data products - Creating and maintaining reports, ad hoc reporting, visualizations, and tools; developing key insights for almost all teams at the organization including leadership.

• Data analytics infrastructure - Designing, building, and maintaining database tables for the organization’s key metrics and analyses.

• Data analysis - working closely with internal and external partners to advise, define and implement metrics and processes for the technical implementation of data collection, analysis, and data presentation.

The ideal candidate is someone who’s passionate and excited about our mission, working on a small team, doing a little bit of everything, digging into data, and making sense of it all; someone with tremendous curiosity for finding answers with data.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Extract, transform and analyze data from multiple sources with appropriate tools (esp. spreadsheets, PostgreSQL, and Tableau) to fulfill analytic requirements as needed.
• Respond to ad hoc data requests from internal teams by pulling data from databases and doing quick-turnaround analyses.
• Support data sharing efforts required for external partnerships and relationships with school districts, donors, and other researchers and organizations.
• Understand Code.org’s programs, processes and top organizational problems in order to carry out insightful analysis that informs business decisions.
• Work with teams to identify their needs, define metrics, and design and implement relevant data analysis.
• Tell data-driven narratives that help our organization and teams make better business decisions.

While everyone on the team brings a unique mix of specific data skills, expertise, and experience, each team member has a baseline of skills, knowledge, and proficiency in:

• SQL & Relational database architecture
• Data Visualization 
• Data Communication (written, verbal, visual)
• Data analysis techniques and methods
• Definition of measurement processes, tools, and metrics
• Teamwork, collaboration, and collegiality

We seek candidates who have:

• Dedication to the mission of driving equity in Computer Science Education.
• Experience writing clean, well-tested code in SQL to query relational databases.
• Experience creating effective data visualizations (Tableau preferred) and reporting dashboards.
• Experience doing quantitative analysis.
• Resourcefulness and creativity to get analyses done in the face of ambiguous requirements and/or messy data.
• Ability to work with multiple partners, and manage multiple projects, simultaneously.
• Experience working with both technical and non-technical teams.
• Strong documentation and verbal communication skills.

We prefer candidates who also have:

• 2-5 years work experience in data analysis, analytics, or equivalent field.
• Experience with or education in python or R for data analysis or data science.
• Experience or familiarity with analytical and statistical methods.
• Strength in data storytelling and data communication
• Connection to or experience in fields of education, computer science and/or tech Ed.

In addition, candidates:

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
• Must pass a pre-employment background check

Step 1: Informational Interview - learn more about the role and share your experience (~30 minutes)

Step 2: Homework: (1) SQL (2) data analysis and visualization (3 hours)

Step 3: Interviews with several members of the Code.org team (~ 3 hours)

Step 4: Final Interview + Meet & Greet with 2-3 members of the Code.org team (~1.5 hours)
