In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, we have launched a new division: Concentric by Ginkgo. We firmly believe that testing is an essential requirement to re-open the economy as quickly and safely as possible. Concentric is the largest provider of K-12 COVID-19 testing. We currently run state-level K-12 testing programs in more than 10 states and some of the nation’s largest school districts. To date, Concentric has sequenced more than 10,000 samples from a variety of sample types, in support of public health. As we continue to scale Concentric by Ginkgo, our work is also evolving and expanding into new and exciting directions. 

To help facilitate the Concentric initiative - and help drive our biosecurity work forward - we’re looking for talented Data Analysts to join our team. With your expertise, you’ll help to build our Concentric platform that brings more COVID-19 testing to more people, with optimized testing programs that work across test modalities and a growing lab network. You’ll collaborate with a team of talented and diverse engineers, product managers, designers, experts in data analysis, and, of course, our customers. You’ll maintain internal data tools, empowering our Delivery, BD, Finance & other Teams to use data in ways to improve operations and efficiencies. You’ll bridge the gap between needs and solutions by designing processes to collect feedback, identify problems, and develop solutions, all while by being a strong internal champion for the customer. You’ll continuously innovate new capabilities for Concentrics platform to be the center of long-term biosecurity, and be part of the growing robust Bioinformatics capabilities within Concentric. This is your chance to develop data processes and visualization tools and frameworks, support business critical KPIs, and directly engage with our customers.

We use PostgreSQL and Snowflake along with Tableau for internal-facing data tools. Our backend tech stack includes AWS, Aptible, Docker, Flask, Kubernetes, Postgres, and other modern tools and frameworks. Our languages of choice are Python and Javascript. While we don't expect you to be an expert in every platform, we do expect that you have a solid foundation in data analysis including writing queries, parsing and interpreting data, data visualization, and to be able to master the technologies that we use today (and will adopt in the future).

Responsibilities

• Design and implement data solutions that address the current needs of Concentric by Ginkgo’s customers, partners, and internal stakeholders (These solutions leverage existing platforms (e.g., Tableau) but could also be a microservice, standalone tool, user-facing web application, data pipeline, etc.)
• Collaborate with your tech lead and product manager to define key milestones and deliverables
• Work as a member of an agile team, attending sprint planning, design meetings, and retrospectives
• Conduct robust stakeholder discovery sessions & requirements gathering with a focus on understanding the stakeholder’s business needs and mapping those to data, data models, and analyses
• Data QA, Cleaning, and Auditing
• Document data models, data keys, and data views for relevant products
• Write custom and complex queries to support a variety of data asks
• Develop automation solutions & scripts for scalable data delivery
• Monitor the data environments, deliverables and dashboards to detect and address customers' issues
• Support business-critical KPI deliverables and analyses
• Prototype new ideas, algorithms, and frameworks
• Develop analytics products following source and configuration control best practices
• Participate in the data collection and data storage design processes to ensure the resulting data is compatible with analytics goals for the project
• Identify value-add features and iterate on dashboard designs in a way that will empower our users to use data more effectively
• Ensure patient data is protected and kept confidential

Minimum Requirements

• BS/MS in Biology, Public Health, CS, Math/Stats, Engineering, or comparable
• 0-2 years of experience in a data analyst or equivalent position
• Prior relevant internship and/or research experience preferred

Preferred Capabilities and Experience

• Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker, etc.)
• Familiarity with a statistical programming language (e.g., R, SAS, Python, etc.)
• Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple, concurrent responsibilities
• Working knowledge of biology and public health concepts relevant to Concentrics mission
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Comfortable working with both internal stakeholders and external customers
• Experience with software and data analytics practices for HIPAA compliance
• Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment
