ABOUT THE ROLE

Purpose is seeking an experienced Data Analytics / Data Science Lead who can design and execute data analysis and reporting approaches to support social impact campaigns across multiple complex issues areas. The Data Analytics / Data Science lead will be responsible for technical design and development of data products and reports, generating and communicating evidence-based insights to drive project success. This person will collaborate closely with our strategy and campaigns teams, collaborate with external partners, and contribute to business development as part of the Impact Measurement & Learning team.

The ideal candidate for the Data Analytics / Data Science Lead role is an agile, meticulous problem solver who understands how to design solutions that are grounded in rigorous technical and analytic methodologies. Your work demonstrates a strong grasp of data and data systems, analytic skills and methods, and attention to detail.

• This full time staff position and reports to the Global Heads of Impact Measurement and Learning. This role has an option to be fully remote, or to work out of any Purpose office.
• This full-time exempt staff position is offered at the Manager, Associate Director. or Director tier, depending on experience. Salary range is $80,000 - $130,000 per year plus benefits, commensurate with experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design and execute high-value data analytics and data science activities in a fast paced environment, utilizing rigorous research and data collection methods to demonstrate project success and broader impact through clear and concise analysis and reporting. Must be creative and flexible in designing and deploying novel approaches to meet project and client needs.
• Assess the effectiveness of data sources and data-gathering techniques, and implement policies that improve user experience and increase efficiency of data operations across Purpose.  Build tools and processes to collect, manage, interrogate and extract data to supply tailored reports to colleagues, customers or Purpose staff.
• Provides systemized, consistent quality control of campaign data and other data sources to ensure successful implementation of data protocols.  Designs analytic approaches, workflows and reports to support project data analysis and reporting needs; maintains systems and protocols to maintain best practices.
• Collaborate with and guide project teams to pursue the best path towards data analysis goals and objectives. Builds relationships and facilitates collaboration with multiple internal and external stakeholders; maintains positive relationships even under difficult circumstances; sensitive to the impact of decisions on clients, partners, and team.
• Collaborate with Global Heads of Function and other IML team members to build out data analysis / data science best practices, tools and infrastructure across Purpose.
• Confidently presents and facilitates discussion of data analysis results and data products to clients, partners, and other non-technical audiences in a clear and well-structured manner; and able to engage in related and broader project context discussion and questions.
• Proactively supports business development opportunities, including developing an approach to a client prospect's challenge, and participating in BD meetings or proposal development.

ABOUT YOU - You would be a great fit for this role if you have:

• ~5 years of relevant work experience in data analytics or data science especially related to social impact, advocacy, or progressive causes. 
• A passion for issue-based or political activism and a belief in Purpose’s work combining storytelling, evidence, and innovation to inspire people to remake the world.
• A proven ability to guide and design research on projects to help achieve strategic goals, and a strong understanding of how to incorporate measurement & evaluation throughout all aspects of a campaign
• Programming skills in Python, R, SQL, STATA, or other statistical tools are required. Data engineering or primary research design experience is a plus.
• Fluency with digital tools, platforms and tactics including social media data collection, analytics and reporting a strong plus.
• Flexible and creative in implementing and overseeing research or testing, including conducting research analysis and synthesizing insights that inform project planning and program design.
• The ability to work well under pressure, maintaining quality and attention to detail under real-world deadlines, in a fast-paced agency or start-up setting. High bar for quality, rigor and integrity.
• Demonstrated track record and/or interest in social sector/social impact organizing and advocacy. 
• Bilingual fluency in a foreign language is a plus.
