Thrive is in the first stages of establishing our data engineering practice—which is why we need you.

As a Data Engineer at Thrive, you will be a foundational architect and developer of a cloud data processing platform for a high-growth startup. You will need to handle a variety of sources and data consumers. You will also be developing the system underlying Thrive's data science efforts, which ultimately feeds back into the product for our end users. 

This challenge will exercise the entire range of your skillset as an engineer, which includes programming and the ability to gather requirements from stakeholders across the business to help create a data engineering roadmap with our team.

Who You Are:

  • Have experience releasing quality code to production systems.
  • Deeply understand or want to learn the plumbing of a modern data stack.
  • Understanding of CI/CD for code releases and how it helps create better quality code.
  • Write high-quality code and good documentation. We work primarily in Python, SQL (DBT), Although we are not exclusive.
  • You are interested in understanding Thrive data problems spanning across many areas and passionate about upholding data integrity.

How You'll Contribute:

  • Build data platform/solution/pipelines using Big Data technologies (Dask/PySpark, DBT, Meltano, Airflow/Argo/Dagster)
  • Work cross-functionally with many teams: Engineering, Infrastructure, Marketing, Customer Success, Product
  • Work on systems critical to Thrive’s future operation, impacting thousands of people's lives daily.
  • Build internal core tooling for the data engineering team and be an evangelist for quality software engineering, with a focus on testability, reliability, and maintainability
  • Perform all of the above in compliance with Thrive's privacy and security constraints, including SOC 2, HIPAA, and GDPR/CCPA
  • Enjoy working with a diverse group of people with different expertise.

Must Haves:

  • 3+ years of Experience with creating high-quality, fast services and workflows in Python
  • 2+ years SQL Experience - understanding of data modelling, you will help build DBT models.
  • Experience building distributed systems in a Data Engineering role.

Must Haves:

  • Experience with big-data technologies like Big Query/Snowflake/Redshift, Kafka, Airflow/other.
  • An interest in Looker 
  • Customer analytics like Segmentation - Segment/CDP
  • Experience within a high-growth startup environment is preferred.
  • Open Source contributions or active GitHub repo
