DATA ENGINEERING LEAD

Ripjar’s Internet Operations Team (RIOT) is a new team being created within Ripjar, responsible for the acquisition of the new and relevant data sources that enable Ripjar to tackle our customers' biggest challenges in Financial Crime, Terrorism and Cyber Threat Intelligence. Data is at the heart of everything we do at Ripjar and as the RIOT team lead you will be responsible for a team of software and data engineers who are building our sustainable data collection pipelines that integrate a variety of open-source and commercial data sources into our processing and analysis platforms. The data that RIOT acquires is critical to our continued success, enabling our Research and Development teams to create cutting edge data analytics and techniques, as well as being consumed directly by our customers to support their operational goals.

You are a technical leader experienced in building and running production data collection systems. You are passionate about technology and keep track of the latest advances in your field and their application in Ripjar. You will have overall responsibility for creating a data collection capability that can scale to meet our data ambitions. To accomplish this, you will work closely with your counterparts in our Operations, Engineering and Product teams to identify the data we will need to acquire and the technologies that can support them in order to meet our strategic ambitions.

Beyond the technology, you will manage relationships with our data providers from a commercial perspective. You will engage in the negotiation of contracts with our providers, ensuring that our data agreements support our use cases as well as measuring the value derived from each data source on an ongoing basis.

You are a self-starter capable of working in a fast-paced environment with the freedom to approach, own and solve problems. You possess a problem-solving attitude that you can draw upon to tackle the technical challenges you will face in this role. You communicate effectively at a technical and non-technical level to your peers at all levels of the organisation.

As the Lead you will:

  • Create and lead a team of Data and Software engineers to scale our data collection capabilities
  • Elicit requirements from stakeholders across Ripjar as well as directly from our data partners and providers and use these to develop a roadmap for data collection
  • Design, implement and document a production-quality data processing framework that standardises how data is ingested and monitored into our data processing environments
  • Support our production data pipelines, keeping data flowing on a sustained basis 24/7/365
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders and our data partners to understand the requirements for our data across technical, product and commercial aspects
  • Experience leading, managing and mentoring a technical team from design through to implementation of production systems
  • Proven engineer with development experience in languages such as Python and JavaScript and the ability to stay hands-on with the technology and technical development work
  • Experience working with complex distributed systems and technology
  • Extensive ETL, data modelling, and data storage experience
  • Excellent communicator and able to confidently represent Ripjar
  • Working knowledge of the Linux Operating System
  • Experience with Apache NiFi, Apache Kafka and related technologies
