What You’ll Do:
The Business Data team centralizes, cleans and prepares the company’s internal business data in our data warehouse (Snowflake) to facilitate business decision-making. The Business Data team maintains Business Intelligence tools (Tableau, potentially Looker) that facilitate quicker and automated reporting and analysis. The team also provides support (documentation, training, coaching) for data analysts in key departments (Marketing, Operations, Customer Support, etc) to ensure that internal analysts are increasingly self-sufficient. Your role within Business Data will be 50% hand-on analysis and 50% team management. You will:
Make it easier for key departments to make informed business decisions by centralizing data. You will do this via requirements analysis and data modelling:
Translating business needs of reporting stakeholders into data model and data field requirements for data warehouse developers
Evaluating business data problems and propose multiple potential solutions
Understanding the full pipeline of business data from raw data capture through reporting and assess the impact of changes to the pipeline
Make future work more predictable. You will do this via Team & Project Management:
Managing data warehouse developers who ingest and organize data
Managing the prioritization, critical path plan, risk and status of data warehouse development
Creating process models, specifications, diagrams, and other documentation as needed to support stakeholder and developer conversations
Using elements of Agile, Kanban and Waterfall project management as appropriate
Ensure the business is making informed decisions based on high quality data. You will do this via Quality Assurance:
Performing extensive quality assurance tests (via SQL or Tableau) for the data warehouse development and reporting datasets
Owning responsibility for overall accuracy of data quality of business data in the datawarehouse and BI pipeline
Collaborating with Product Owners, Analysts and Managers to surface, resolve and communicate data quality and data governance issues. Includes managing cross-team solutions to data quality issues.
Maintaining ad hoc datasets for BI reporting
Ensure that analysts can easily access the data they need. You will do this via User Training and Support
Maintaining the data dictionary for users
Documenting additions and changes to the data pipeline
Providing new user onboard training for Tableau and how to access the data warehouse
Example Projects You Might Work On:
Preparing NetSuite data in the data warehouse for end-user analysis
Joining data across several systems (NetSuite, Salesforce) to provide a life-cycle view of the products purchased by customers
Providing solutions to key data governance issues (such as standardizing business definitions, finding relevant data) that will expand our capacity to do advanced reporting and analysis
Basic Qualifications:
5+ years related work experience (with an emphasis on analysis, data cleaning/reporting and small team/project management)
2+ years experience managing a small team (~4 people) and/or a small project
Experience examining underlying details, cleaning and preparing data for reports
Experience with basic SQL querying
Preferred Qualifications:
1 or more years as a Tableau Creator (or advanced SQL experience)
Able to work independently, with a proactive, risk-mitigation approach
Excellent analytical, and flexible problem-solving skills
Excellent listening, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
Experience managing a project in an Agile environment
Familiarity with Netsuite and/or Salesforce data
Familiarity with Looker
Experience as a Data Architect
Experience with Quality Assurance
