Why it Matters: The quality team’s mission at Axios will be to ensure our technology is of the highest quality for our readers and clients every day. In this role you will be collaborating with multi-functional teams such as the data engineering, data science and product teams to test, validate and monitor data platforms and the data flowing through them. The quality team will integrate tightly into our cross-functional product teams to refine requirements for our products and to ensure the systems delivered line up.

The Details: The Data Quality Engineer’s responsibility is to ensure Axios is shipping better products consistently. Responsibilities of this role include:

  • Collaborating with technical leads, data engineers, analysts, product managers and assigned squad to define and refine requirements
  • Leading the squad’s efforts in identifying risk and developing mitigation strategies
  • Developing methods for managing and maintaining data integrity across systems
  • Writing and executing test plans, utilizing both manual and automated testing techniques
  • Managing bugs, including identification, logging, tracking and triaging
  • Working with data engineering squad to prioritize and develop data qualification pipeline, qualification criteria, identify testing gaps, and deliver measurable test results
  • Identifying the need for and improving processes, tools and testing 

Go Deeper: Ideal candidates will embody an entrepreneurial spirit, a passion for Axios’ mission and have the following skills:

  • Experience detecting and reporting data quality issues
  • Experience in Software Quality Assurance, Quality Engineering, or as a SDET
  • Experience working with data pipeline/pipeline issues
  • Familiarity with Kafka, PySpark, Jenkins/Circle, AWS
  • Experience testing services and web applications
  • Willingness to be a problem solver and produce results in a fast paced environment
  • Experience working with Ruby, Python, Node and/or Javascript is preferred
  • Practical experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
  • The ability to set up test environments, deploy code, use the command line
  • Experience testing in an Agile and Continuous Integration environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptionally collaborative with obsessive attention to detail
