Why it Matters: This Data Scientist will play a key role in helping us improve our ML features and applications. In this role, you will work closely with product teams to understand the problems they are trying to solve and convert those problems into functions that can be optimized with machine learning. In this role, you will make an impact on Axios through the following responsibilities:

  • Working closely with product teams to understand the problems they are trying to solve, converting those problems into functions that can be optimized with machine learning, and developing transparent metrics to understand and monitor model performance
  • Evaluating and selecting appropriate datasets for both supervised and unsupervised machine learning problems
  • Find and implement the best methodological approaches  and tools
  • Research and develop machine learning methods for a wide range of tasks that primarily fall within natural language processing
  • Train, evaluate, monitor and iterate on models to be used in production applications
  • Perform statistical analyses to refine model performance and communicate the results to product teams and stakeholders
  • Developing transparent metrics to understand and monitor model performance
  • Extending our python libraries
  • Remaining up to date on the new and state of the art applications of machine learning

  • Highly collaborative and comfortable working on a distributed team
  • Self-motivated with high attention to detail, ability to think critically and problem solve
  • Ability to learn new technologies and experience delivering on a wide range of data science projects 
  • Highly analytical with solid experience in analysis, math and statistics
  • Proven experience as a data scientist or similar role
  • Experience applying appropriate analytical methods and experimental design (training models, feature development, regression testing)
  • Understanding of NLP techniques for text representation and semantic extraction 
  • Excellent programming skills in Python/SQL
  • Comfortable with Jupyter Notebooks, and experience with machine learning frameworks (like PyTorch, Tensorflow), Python libraries (like scikit-learn, HuggingFace) and GPU-accelerated computing
  • Ability to write robust and testable code
  • Excellent communication skills
