About the Role:

We are looking for analytics professionals to join our Vendr Data Science and Analytics team.  Our responsibilities include driving operational performance through KPIs and dashboards, as well as developing visualizations which offer relevant insights both within the Vendr products and for marketing and public relations.  Data is central to Vendr’s success and your role will be directly relevant to the company value proposition.

You are someone who is self-taught, passionate about getting the right answer, and has experience with data: diving in, testing hypotheses, developing visualizations, and telling relevant stories.  You enjoy sharing these insights with others in the organization, and look to be challenged and grow by engaging in a small team of data professionals who are each on their own growth journey.  We operate without significant silos and boundaries, and expect you to participate with flexibility and openness as part of a team which values teamwork and takes pride in individual mastery.  You will be expected to develop your own positions and approaches and bring to the team recommendations on how to proceed with your work.

Responsibilities:

  • Use data to drive operational improvements including development of KPIs, targets, dashboards, and visualizations which can complement lean operational processes and improve throughput time and client value.
  • Develop visualizations usable in product to facilitate operational teams and customer self-service
  • Support client data requests meticulously and efficiently while proactively developing systems and tools to minimize ad hoc requests
  • Drive self-service of data by developing data sources, enhancing data dictionaries and other contextual information, and organizing data sources and dashboards to guide users to relevant tools.
  • Training clients and new team members in data exploration, visualization and dashboard development.
  • Conducting analytical exercises required to support clients and stakeholders requiring customized solutions.
  • Consult and develop concepts with operational stakeholders and product teams.
  • Develop and maintain business operating dashboards and metrics.
  • Identify, validate and integrate new data sources which enhance business value.
  • Contribute to a culture of data quality, reliability and relevance.
  • Review SaaS tools which can extend the team’s capabilities.
  • Protect customer data proactively.
  • Participate in team activities ranging from daily standups to roadmaps, prioritization, timelines, skill development, and occasional meetups.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years experience in data analysis, statistics, or quantitative applications and development
  • Quantitative and analytical skills exhibited through ability to dive deeply into data and discover patterns and relationships not captured by statistical summaries
  • SQL
  • Experience with python or r, visualization tools, and statistics
  • Problem solving skills
  • Enthusiasm about the hard work required to broaden your technical skill set (pandas, sklearn, visualization tools), your operational skill set (agile and lean), your knowledge of SaaS (Vendr’s domain), your business and economics skills, and your interpersonal skills

Preferred:

  • Academic degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, social sciences, engineering, operations research, computer science or related field
  • Python or R expertise
  • SQL expertise
  • Data modeling experience
  • Dbt experience
  • Tableau and/or Looker experience
  • Visualization - not just “how to” but also “best practice”
  • Statistics (esp. Bayesian statistics)
  • Machine learning models
  • Forecasting models (such as Prophet)
  • AB Testing
  • Open source development
  • Excel (Google sheets) pivot tables
  • Business acumen
  • Economics and finance
  • Stakeholder management and client communication
  • Passion for learning
  • Self-directedness
