Director of Development Planning and Analysis 
Reports to: VP Development Operations
Location: Remote
Hours: Full-time
Salary: $125,000-$140,000/year

Overview of the role
The Director of Development Planning and Analysis  provides analysis, insights, and recommendations to support the creation and evolution of Development strategies. This position supports the vertical in expense and revenue budget,development, planning (forecasts) and analysis (look backs), gleans and communicates insights to drive strategies and investment decisions, defining KPIs and designing measurement plans and tests that track cross-revenue stream performance within our Development vertical. The role will oversee creation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of key performance dashboards for Development teams while collaborating with cross-functional  teams such as Technology, Finance and Strategy functions  to ensure collection, capture and validation of key data elements for organization-wide performance tracking in relation to Development .  

Who You Are

    • Experienced.  You have a proven track record in planning and analyzing product, sales, development or philanthropy function in an organization, including revenue and expense budget planning and reporting,  ROI assessment and cost benefit assessments of key metrics and  initiatives. 
    • Collaborator. Proven collaborator who approaches all work and interactions with empathy and inclusion, with recognized success in creating relationships with cross-functional teams from varying levels, working closely with colleagues to brainstorm ideas, discuss pros/cons, and develop ways forward. Proven ability to listen and respond to develop mutual understanding and trust and in fostering an environment where different opinions and approaches can be entertained, considered, and appreciated while working as a team to find a resolution.
    • Communicator. Demonstrated ability to articulate thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively in written and oral forms to audiences inside and outside of the organization. Proven skill in distilling complex information into compelling, easily digestible narratives; presents information in an inspiring and persuasive way, and at conveying technical information to a non-technical audience.
    • Service Delivery and Adaptability.  Demonstrated commitment to outstanding internal and external service to our colleagues, the individuals we serve, our donors, and those with whom we collaborate and communicate, with a proven focus on proactive and inclusive issue resolution and continuous improvement for all systems and processes. Demonstrated flexibility in the midst of change, being able to successfully juggle multiple deliverables, and adapting to new situations with fresh ideas or innovative approaches. Demonstrated ability and experience in balancing the intensity of work and mission with self-management and care. 
    • Mission and Culture Aligned. Demonstrates awareness and support for The Trevor Project’s mission and vision: to end suicide and address mental health crises in the LGBTQ youth community, and create a world where all LGBTQ young people see a bright future for themselves.
    • People Management. Experienced people manager of a team with proven success in training, leading, coaching, developing, and managing the performance of direct reports, including clearly communicating goals and priorities inwardly and outwardly, engaging staff in the execution of responsibilities, and creating open channels of communication and feedback while ensuring team members are accountable for achieving outcomes. Demonstrated track record of communicating organizational decisions, policies, and processes in perspective, keeping the organization’s best interest at the heart of all communications, decisions, and actions.
    • Data and Results Driven. Has succeeded in roles with clear and concrete goals with a track record of meeting goals. Demonstrated experience in making data-based decisions. Proven skill in reviewing data for correctness and appropriateness, with an eye for detail and process improvement.

What You'll Do

    • Contribute to our critical mission of ending suicide among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning young people, while fostering an inclusive and collaborative  approach to your direct work and engagement with Trevor colleagues across the organization.
    • Continually grow your LGBTQ competency and awareness.
    • Provide ongoing leadership, supervision, support and guidance to the Planning and Analysis  team. This  includes but is not limited to, developing  job descriptions, hiring staff, performance management, training, coaching and mentoring. 
    • Ensure that all members of the team have a productive but manageable workload, clear goals and expectations, a clear plan for professional development, and the tools and resources needed to be effective in their role.
    • Glean and communicate insights to drive strategies and investment decisions based on performance relative to historical trend, nonprofit sector results, and industry best practices; execute regular and ad hoc deep dives into performance that reveal the root causes of outcomes and make recommendations for improvements.
    • Collaborate closely with Development, Finance, Marketing and Communications  teams’ leadership as well as with program owners to support strategies by defining KPIs and designing measurement plans and tests, to track cross-channel performance along various dimensions including donors, supporter engagement, website usage, revenue, and ROI. 
    • Deliver on measurement plans and tests by both developing new reports and tools and implementing ongoing process, tool, and system improvements, including a regular audit of existing reporting with recommendations for additions or enhancements.  
    • Pro-actively research, evaluate and manage implementation of cost-effective revenue processing solutions in accordance with changing fundraising strategies and the available technology.
    • Responsible for the expense and revenue  budget and forecasting processes across Development. Oversee the processes for revenue and expense budget builds and performance tracking throughout the year. Create budget models internally and/or oversee any external tool development. Ensure financial decisions are informed by historical trend data and analysis. Act as the support,  to build the budget for certain revenue streams channels and fundraising activities.
    • Identify inconsistencies and gaps in data being used for reporting and partner with Finance and  the Systems & Data Management team to address and test fixes.
    • Collaborate with Strategy Management and Data Analytics (SMDA)  Tech and other cross-functional partners in the development and delivery  of Trevor-wide data and analytics strategies.
