Overview

The position

We are looking for a talented on Director of Data Management – Big Data Engineering, who will focus on building company’s data lake using Databricks and AWS.

This position reports to the VP of Data Insight. You will use your big data technology skills to identify latest technologies and to provide architectural and design direction to a team of engineers building data lake. Up to 50% of your time, will be hands-on technical work where you will develop and enhance a user-friendly, highly available Big Data Platform. You will help to build ETL pipelines in SQL, Python, and Spark, and solve data issues as they arise during development, deployment and operations.

If you are hired to work in or travel to the NYC Office, you will be required to provide proof that you have received the COVID-19 vaccine.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on and outcomes-oriented technology leader with extensive experience designing, building, and supporting modern big data solutions.

Responsibilities

What you will do

  • Partner with product management team and various business teams to understand the requirements and architect the solution.
  • Partner with other tech leads and senior engineers across multiple teams and orgs to gather system requirements, gut check new feature proposals, and drive large system improvements.
  • Provide the team the tools, confidence, and motivation to make decisions independently that lead to their personal and professional success.
  • Responsible for group’s technical strategy and roadmap - creating success metrics in close collaboration with other Engineering and Product Managers.
  • Experiment with new technologies, and conduct proof of concept which then is presented to tech peers.
  • Mentor the professional development of each engineer by helping them build and execute personal development plans that map to our organization goals. Aggressively recruit and hire talented engineers.

Qualifications

Required skills and competencies

  • Experience in architecting, designing and building high scale, near real-time data solutions and batch data processing pipelines
  • On-shore and off-shore team management experience
  • Experience in designing error-free and/or self-healing solution
  • Strong hands on experience in Python, SQL, and Spark
  • Experience in Databricks, Delta Lake, Parquet, Hive, PySpark, and Spark SQL
  • Proficient in one or more environments: Linux, Windows, and/or iOS
