At Amazon Web Services (AWS), we’re hiring highly technical cloud computing architects to collaborate with our customers and partners on key engagements. Our consultants will develop, deliver and implement AI, IOT, and data analytics projects that help our customers leverage their data to develop business insights. These professional services engagements will focus on customer solutions such as Machine Learning, IoT, batch/real-time data processing, Data and Business intelligence.

This is a customer facing role. You will be required to travel to client locations and deliver professional services when needed. This position can have periods of up to 40% travel.

Key job responsibilities

  • Understand customer requirements and render those as architectural models that will operate at large scale and high performance, and advise customers on how to run these architectural models on AWS
  • Work alongside customers to build data management platforms using Amazon Elastic Map Reduce (EMR), Amazon Athena, AWS Glue, Amazon Redshift and other related services.
  • Extract best-practice knowledge, reference architectures, and patterns from these engagements for sharing with the worldwide AWS solution architect community and engineering teams.
  • Deliver on-site technical engagements with partners and customers. This includes participating in pre-sales on-site visits, understanding customer requirements, generating consulting proposals, contributing to internal Area of Depth (AoD) programs, authoring AWS Data Analytics best practice blogs/whitepaper and creating packaged data service offerings.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience of IT platform implementation in a highly technical and analytical role.
  • 5+ years experience of Data Analytics platform implementation, including 3+ years of hands-on experience in implementation and performance tuning Hadoop/Spark implementations.
  • Ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges in an enterprise environment. Leadership and innovation around Data Analytics.
  • Understanding of Apache Spark/Hadoop and the Data Analytics ecosystem. Experience with one or more relevant tools (Atlas, Sqoop, HBase, Flume, Kinesis, Kafka, Oozie, Hue, Zookeeper, Ranger, Delta Lake, Avro, etc.).
  • Familiarity with one or more SQL-on-Hadoop technologies (Hive, Pig, Impala, Spark SQL, Presto).
  • Experience developing software code in one or more programming languages (Java, JavaScript, Python, etc).
  • Current hands-on implementation experience required
  • Ability to travel to client locations to deliver professional services when needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Physics, Engineering or Math.
  • Hands on experience leading large-scale global data warehousing and analytics projects.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across organizations
  • Understanding of database and analytical technologies in the industry including MPP and NoSQL databases, Data Warehouse design, BI reporting and Dashboard development.
  • Industry leadership in the fields of database, data warehousing or data sciences.
  • Implementation and tuning experience specifically using Amazon Elastic Map Reduce (EMR).
  • Implementing AWS services in a variety of distributed computing, enterprise environments.
  • Customer facing skills to represent AWS well within the customer’s environment and drive discussions with senior personnel regarding trade-offs, best practices, project management and risk mitigation. Should be able to interact with Chief Marketing Officers, Chief Risk Officers, Chief Technology Officers, and Chief Information Officers, as well as the people within their organizations.
  • This position requires that the candidate selected be a U.S. citizen and be willing to obtain and maintain a TS security clearance.

The pay range for this position in Colorado is $153,000- $207,000/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on bonus and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
