Ellevation is seeking an experienced Business Intelligence Manager to help support our growing business data and reporting needs.  We need to continually improve visibility into both our company's performance and our customer’s usage of our product, so that Ellevation can strategically serve more educators and more students in the coming years. 

You will report directly to the Vice President, Ellevation Finance and Business Operations. This role is a critical and highly visible role working with senior leaders within the organization where you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all activities related to the design, development, and implementation of organizational business reporting and analytics, and the structure of the data ingestion to several critical business systems such as Salesforce and ChurnZero. The BI Manager is also responsible for maintaining, supporting, and upgrading reports, dashboards, cubes, and data warehouses. This role requires a thorough, detailed, creative, diligent, and sharp analytical mind. Must have exceptional BI experience building and maintaining an enterprise data warehouse and associated ETL pipelines along with the right attitude and excellent customer-facing skills. This role must also understand and be able to code in SQL and Python or similar language. The role will have one direct report, a Business Intelligence Analyst.

Within 1 month, you will:

    • Onboard
    • Develop relationships across the Finance and Operations team
    • Start interviews with various departments to understand the current data landscape and reporting
    • Manage and work with Business Intelligence Analyst

Within 3 months, you will:

    • Create a detailed map of the current business data structure and data flows
    • Start to identify opportunities to clean up the backend data warehouse and flows, and execute on them
    • Interview various stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and gaps, and begin definition around data requirements
    • Develop first draft of BI roadmap and proposal of priorities
    • Coach and grow Business Intelligence Analyst

Within 6 months, you will:

    • Finalize Business Intelligence roadmap, and start delivering and executing to it
    • Analyze current reporting platform, and make recommendations on possible changes to the overall systems landscape and BI tool 
    • Coach and grow Business Intelligence Analyst

Within 12 months, you will:

    • Start implementation of revised BI tool, and develop a process for managing it on a go-forward basis
    • Partner with Finance to develop the dashboards, reporting, and tracking to make sure the company is tracking the correct KPIs and goals for success
    • Create a detailed map of the current business data structure and data flows

About You:

    • You understand reporting, business intelligence, and data governance best practices and are a champion for data stewardship.
    • You are technically savvy, detail-oriented, and enjoy building relationships across the organization. 
    • You have worked in, and enjoy the rewards and challenges of, a growing technology company.
    • You both work well independently and enjoy overcoming the challenges of remote work to build relationships with the company. 
    • You enjoy coaching and teaching - collaborate with sales, pre-sales, and marketing to drive business outcomes.
    • You enjoy working with data and finding insights from that dataset to drive strategic conversations.

Technical Skills and Experience

    • 4-5+ years of experience in a BI or Data Structure and Reporting role; EdTech, Software and SaaS experience preferred
    • 2-4 years of people management experience
    • Ability to articulate data reporting to technical and non-technical audiences
    • Experience in business data modeling, metadata structure, and business subject areas for key business processes
    • Experience with third-party ETL tools such as Fivetran and Skyvia
    • Experience of successful and effective application systems leadership, project management, preferably within BI and ERP systems
    • Expertise in designing, implementing, and operating distributed data stores (relational, non-relational, key-value, graph) and warehousing systems, especially demonstrating public cloud technologies (e.g., AWS Aurora, RDS, Neptune, Redshift).
    • Expertise in implementing and leveraging data transport technologies (batch or streaming ETL/ELT including Apache Kafka, Airflow) and data processing platforms (Apache Hadoop, Spark, Pig, Hive, Impala, Presto/Trino)
    • Proficient with SQL, Python, and other common programming languages
    • Experienced with SAS software programs
    • Strong leadership and decision-making abilities
    • Able to perform complex tasks involving datasets and statistics
    • Knowledgeable about agile tactics and methodology
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical mindset, curious by nature, focused on business results
    • Strong EQ, experience partnering across matrixed organizations, and an appreciation for building deep business partnerships 
    • Demonstrated track of establishing visions for enterprise-wide programs/products and driving delivery using SMART OKRs
