YouGov is looking for a technically sophisticated Senior Analyst to join the Analytics team within the Scientific Research Group. SRG is a fast-growing business unit within YouGov focusing on custom surveys and trackers in technology, politics, health, and other research areas with complex designs and client needs.

The successful candidate will support researchers and clients in their data collection and analysis projects, through survey methodology, advanced analytics, and data management. We are looking for an individual combining programming skills in R with an interest in survey methodology and modeling. Work in a fast-paced and intellectually stimulating environment where innovative solutions to market research, financial, and political problems are developed.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize programming skills to implement complex data processing systems and pipelines, process, explore, and analyze large datasets, and produce relevant survey data outputs
  • Advise and execute on survey sampling methodology for internal and external clients to deliver high quality, representative research
  • Perform advanced analytics (e.g. logistic, penalized regressions; MaxDiff analysis; factor analysis; clustering) on survey data
  • Collaborate with research teams to develop engaging analytic outputs and communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Contribute to existing R codebase and collaborate with Analytics teammates to innovate on existing processes.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Experience with statistical modeling of survey or other social science data
  • Experience with public opinion and market research methods
  • Strong grasp of programming fundamentals (e.g. control structures, writing functions, debugging, and object-oriented or functional programming concepts)
  • Proficiency in R, with the ability to work inside and outside of the tidyverse framework
  • A self motivated attitude, and the ability to look beyond established practices to find solutions to novel problems
  • Tolerant of the ambiguity inherent in survey research
  • Thrives in and promotes an intellectually diverse, collaborative, low ego culture

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with R package development
  • Experience with other technologies such as Linux, Git, SQL, Python programming
  • Some background in or exposure to political science or political consulting
  • Familiarity with population studies such as the American Community Survey or the Current Population Survey
