Thyme Care is an oncology digital health start-up that’s focused on radically improving the cancer experience with early and ongoing intervention. We help individuals with cancer, their caregivers, clinicians, health plans, and employers by coordinating integrated care that leads to better results, lower costs, and aligned incentives. Every Thyme Care member is assigned a personalized team of physician-guided oncology nurses and resource specialists who provide education, guidance, and advocacy as they navigate the complex healthcare system. We facilitate quick access to quality resources and high-value care, coordinating directly with providers and offering support every step of the way. Our high-touch, tech-enabled model generates actionable insights that allow us to identify at-risk members earlier and offer them the most relevant support based on where they are in their cancer journey—closing gaps in care and eliminating excess spend.

Your Role:

As our Senior Analytics Engineer, you will join our Data team to design and build Thyme Care’s data infrastructure and assets. You will have end-to-end ownership of our data products; from design through testing, shipping, documentation, and iteration. You will work with our Product, Engineering, Clinical, and Growth teams to understand our members’ cancer journey. You will measure the intensity of their needs, understand utilization patterns, tailor our communication with members, and identify interventions to reduce low value utilization and improve the quality of care while reducing costs.

After three months you will have:

  • Gained a deep understanding of our data ecosystem and meaningfully contributed to our modern data stack for data extraction, warehousing, transformation, and workflow orchestration.
  • Identified areas of improvement to scale our ability to support an increasing member population and more complex analytical needs.
  • Partnered with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical implementation plans to develop data models, pipelines, and analytics dashboards. For example, you may build models in dbt to understand medical care dispersion of our members and its implications for out-of-pocket cost. Then, we can work across teams  to help identify opportunities to lower out-of-pocket costs for our members.
  • Become our resident healthcare claims and clinical EHR data expert and work with our data science and commercial teams to develop analytic capabilities that allow us to  identify opportunities to reduce low value utilization, while ensuring high quality of care for our members.

After six months you will have:

  • Owned and led the development of data models to improve the way we measure the impact of interventions with our members and report these outcomes internally and externally.
  • Played a key role building out our data infrastructure as well as defining our roadmap to ensure a modular and scalable data architecture to the growth of our capabilities and our team.
  • Led the development of our utilization and quality metrics and have become the first person to help resolve inquiries by stakeholders. In addition, you contributed to the translation of our data assets into business opportunities and strategic initiatives for Thyme Care.

What leads to success:

  • People-first. Thyme Care’s mission and members matter to you, deeply.
  • Experience. You aren’t new to the healthcare data realm and have worked with large healthcare data sets. We’d bet you’ve worked for a health plan or at a healthcare-focused technology startup as an Analytics Engineer or a Data Engineer. It’s critical that you have worked with medical claims, pharmacy claims, eligibility files, and other relevant types of healthcare data to build data marts for reporting and analysis.
  • Technical ability. It’s critical to our mission that you have deep experience in analytical SQL, data modeling, pipelining to extract, store, and transform data. You know how to deploy software engineering best practices, such as testing, code review, and documentation. You are either familiar with dbt or can get up to speed quickly so that you can utilize dbt to build data marts and advance our data warehouse reporting capabilities. You may also be proficient enough in Python, R, or another BI tool to do basic data analysis and visualization.
  • Curiosity. You have a drive to understand how things work and love sharing that knowledge with others.
  • Comfort with ambiguity. You have a proven track record of success within scaling businesses, fast-paced environments, and ambitious startups. You know how to chart a course through ambiguous challenges.

We are committed to promoting the health and well-being of all individuals. As a provider of cancer care navigation, we recognize that those with cancer constitute a vulnerable population at risk of contracting COVID-19.  As such, Thyme Care has adopted a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy, requiring all employees to receive a COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment, subject only to conflicting laws and approved exemptions based on medical or religious objections.

Additionally, we believe employees should be paid fairly compared to their peers inside the company and in the market. We also believe that your personal needs and preferences should be taken into consideration so we allow some choice between equity and cash.

We recognize a history of inequality in healthcare. We’re here to challenge the status quo and create a culture of inclusion through the care we give and the company we build. We embrace and celebrate a diversity of perspectives in reflection of our members and the members we serve. We are an equal opportunity employer.
