Position Intro:
Humble Bundle is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to own and improve our data pipeline and front-end analytics. Our unique approach to e-commerce is powered by highly complex data structures from a variety of sources that you will be responsible for transforming into easily-consumable tables for our Analytics team. You will partner with Analytics and Business Development to deliver sophisticated business intelligence and answer important, nuanced questions. You'll work with Product Managers to establish and implement frontend analytics solutions, providing a clear understanding of user behavior. And, as a member of the Engineering team, you'll act as our resident Data expert to provide guidance and direction with regards to data architecture in ongoing and future projects. This position will be a dotted-line into Analytics leadership.
Responsibilities:
- Own the entire data pipeline from our application (frontend and backend) and third party data sources to our reporting tables
- Design, implement, and maintain extensible + reusable data infrastructure
- Develop intimate knowledge and understanding of Humble Bundle's source data taxonomy; refine that complex source data to consumable business metrics
- Partner with Analytics to eliminate friction in report-building
- Evaluate and implement third party tools and vendors for data collection, modeling, and reporting
Required Experience:
- 4+ years experience working with Google data products (including BigQuery and Dataflow)
- 4+ years experience with "big data" best practices: ETLs, data warehousing, etc.
- 4+ years experience with SQL and DML, ability to write performant queries
- Hands-on experience wrangling complex data from disparate data sources
- Hands-on experience defining reusable data definitions and business metrics
- Hands-on experience dealing with large, complex data sets
- 4+ years of experience as a data engineer
- 6+ years of experience writing production code in a large, complex codebase in an agile team environment with code reviews and other software engineering best practices
Bonus Points
- Knowledge of Python and JavaScript
- Experience with NoSQL databases and/or Cloud Firestore / Datastore
