Few years ago, we began our journey to transform our approach to data and analytics from a batch-centric platform with siloed data marts, to our Nordstrom Analytical Platform (NAP), a real-time, event-streaming-centric, analytical platform that provides high quality, pre-stitched 360 views of our customers, products, inventory, customer service, fulfilment/logistics, and credit. This year, we are developing and releasing the next iterations of the NAP Supply Chain and Inventory data products enabling executive leadership, data analytics and data science teams, warehouse and store operations and business users to develop and deliver critical and actionable KPIs to enhance and improve our Nordstrom Supply Chain Network, inventory management and further improve our well-known Nordstrom Customer Service. Nordstrom Data Technology is pivotal to the Nordstrom customer experience.

Summary

Customer Data (Styling and Digital domain) Team is tasked with sharing data with strategic partners that drive business value and improve our customer experience.

A Senior Engineer is part of a key team of Nordstrom Technology professionals that applies scientific, mathematical and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, devices, systems and solutions. These technology products and solutions provide amazing customer experiences while meeting the needs of the business. The scope and accountability at this level is responsible for the quality of a team's work, ensuring that all designs are clear and complete for successful execution. This level can undertake complex design and problem solving without supervision. The Customer Data team is responsible for managing the customer’s experience and share/provide data to Analytic/Data Science teams.

As a Senior Engineer, you will focus on leading the design and development of highly scalable software applications, services, data pipelines and database solutions. The ideal candidate is creative, customer-driven and has a passion for data products. This opportunity also provides various avenues to collaborate and influence several other platforms within Nordstrom Technology and have a company-wide impact – both business and engineering.

A day in the life...

• Design and develop distributed data processing pipelines in our Big Data ecosystem using Python, Java, Kafka, S3, Presto, Airflow, Kubernetes, etc.

• Lead the transitioning of our partners to our event driven business model

• Turn data into insights and connect those insights with our customers

• Collaborate with technical program management, analytics, and business partners to build scalable and durable solutions that drive business outcomes

• Design, communicate, and execute end-end solutions.

• Continuously improve upon existing processes and solutions

• Ongoing production support of Customer data products

• Serve as mentor in our rich engineering culture

We operate in a fast-paced environment using agile methodology and Event driven Kappa architecture. We encourage innovation and expect developers to take a high level of ownership throughout the software life cycle.

We'd love it if you have any of these

• Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience (Master's preferred)

• 5+ years of professional experience

• 5+ years of experience in at least one programming language (e.g. Python, Java, Scala)

• 5+ years of experience with MPP Databases, SQL, data modeling and automated engineering solutions.

• Experience with distributed systems (Spark, AWS EMR, etc.)

• Experience with AWS cloud environments

• Experience developing and shipping production-grade scalable, high-performance services and applications in an agile, product-oriented environment.

• Experience with consuming and/or designing APIs

• Experience integrating with partners and becoming an internal SME on their integration

• Strong understanding of debugging scalable, high-performance applications built with reusability and componentization in mind.

• Experience with AWS Neptune Graph database is desired.

Pay Range Details

The pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different in other locations.

Colorado: $114,000 - $176,500 annually, Nevada: $114,000 - $176,500 annually
