Reporting to the Manager Reporting and Analysis, this position is responsible for supporting the end user community in the use of business intelligence tools and in the development of production report outputs. The qualified candidate should be an expert in the use of Microsoft development tools specifically SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, SQL Server and be proficient in writing stored procedures.

Responsibilities include working closely with key business customers and data users to define critical information needs, providing guidance regarding availability of data, capability of systems to meet information needs, and subject matter expertise regarding current systems and emerging reporting tools.

In addition, as the department implements its strategic objective to reduce the business dependency on ad hoc report development by IT and promote end user self service reporting, this position will be responsible for the recommendation of reproducible OLAP models to support the end user community. This effort includes but is not limited to requirements and scope documentation, data definitions and participation in the design, development and implementation of cubes and end user tools.

Essential Functions

Analysis and Design

  • Participates in the requirements, design, development and testing of information products as well as creation of end user documentation.

  • Possesses knowledge of the business and business processes. Understands how analytical needs support business processes and proactively apply this knowledge to solve business problems.

  • Extensive knowledge of the enterprise’s business and decision-making processes. Must be able to build strong relationships and work closely with various business leaders and stakeholders.

  • Possesses skills and knowledge in process and data modeling,  architectural development methodologies. and IT planning methodologies.

  • Coordinates the documentation of data definitions with business owners, and ensures the proper use of data when fulfilling information needs.

Technical

  • Leads the use and adoption of industry standard reporting tools including but not limited to SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, SQL Server and stored procedures etc.

  • Produces data sets for end users based on standard adopted data definitions and or regulatory requirements. 

  • Extracts and collects data for performing queries and writing reports.

  • Reviews queries for performance issues, making changes as needed.

  • Adheres to IT developments standards and best practices.

  • Supports application development activities by developing test plans and executing tests, gaining technical and end user sign off.

  • Considered an expert in the business intelligence / data warehouse / reporting & analysis areas.

  • Project Management

  • Must become familiar with NHP’s project management methodologies, working with the PMO to support large projects that include data mapping, conversions and development.

  • Assumes lead responsibility and/or technical hands on support for department development activities as requested.

  • Possesses deep knowledge of all aspects of the system development life cycle.

  • Participates in the implementation of new enterprise applications, as applicable.

  • Communication and Teamwork

  • Possesses effective communication skills and demonstrates the ability to work effectively with cross functional teams

  • Works collaboratively with other IT groups to ensure solid cross-functional decisions are made as a team.

  • Develops collaborative working relationships with all business partners / departments.

  • Works jointly with internal and external staff to achieve NHP’s strategic goals and with the Manager of Reporting to develop approaches in support of the business unit’s information needs.

  • Coordinates with infrastructure to ensure smooth operations and business results.

  • Responsible for representing reporting at change control and ensuring that all scheduled releases have gone through an adequate test process and are documented before going to change control.

  • Meets regularly with Manager of Reporting to escalate issues, report status of Reporting requests and identify opportunities for improvements.

  • Works as a team player to plan and meet deadlines while promoting a positive work environment.

Consultant to the Business

  • Builds relationships with the business customers by spending time with them to understand their business and the challenges they face.

  • Can recommend solutions to their immediate needs.

  • Can think beyond the immediate request to identify patterns that should be addressed by a more holistic solution.

  • Identifies inaccuracies in the data or data definitions.

  • Ensures quality and appropriateness of information for the analysis that the customer is seeking.

  • Educates the business on appropriate use of data.

  • Contributes to the overall usability of the data for use by the business community.

Problem Solver

  • Identifies roadblocks and recommends solutions.

  • Coordinates the execution of action plans to remove roadblocks.

  • Knows when to escalate problems while still working to resolve the issue.

  • Identifies the root causes and initiates the actions to address.

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

  • 8+ years of Business Intelligence, decision support, reporting and analysis experience.

  • Microsoft Certified IT Professional – Business Intelligence Developer –

  • Exam 70-446 required

  • Experience with Performance Point and Proclarity a plus.

  • Technical leader with experience in Operational and Analytical Reporting.

  • Experience with various reporting toolsets, SQL Server, OLAP.

  • A working knowledge of Data Warehouse methodologies.

  • Familiarity with Agile and Scrum development methodologies.

  • Experience in project management and systems development life cycle methodologies.

  • Experience in data modeling and design.

  • Ability to be impartial and apply the methodology established by NHP

  • Information Technology leadership to evaluate the business needs as they

  • relate to ROI and resource needs from both IT and the business units.

  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven

  • ability to work collaboratively with all business units.

  • Excellent written skills, including experience with use case and technical documentation, following software development life cycle documentation requirements.

  • Planning and organizational skills required.

  • Ability to interact with and influence cross-functionally at all levels of the organization.
