The Senior Manager, Business Intelligence will play a critical role on the Analytics Platform and Solutions team. This team develops and maintains Upwork's data infrastructure, data warehouse, and business intelligence solutions, empowering our data community to drive the business forward.

The main responsibility of this role will be to own the implementation and management of BI tools and processes for our internal data users. With the immense amount of data inherent to a two-sided marketplace, it is critical for new and existing team members to be able to explore, understand, and leverage data in an efficient manner. This role will get the opportunity to partner across several domains and technologies to enable teams to be as productive as possible.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a small team to drive self-service of business intelligence across the company within Looker and/or other tools
  • Create and execute against a roadmap that identifies our BI needs and solution requirements based on our company vision and priorities
  • Maintain a clean and user-friendly Looker instance by maintaining a governed semantic layer and LookML logic
  • Manage major processes within our Looker instance including feature releases, development lifecycle, migrations, content management, audits, and more
  • Enforce scalable best practices among developers and end users through automation and training
  • Coordinate with multiple department leadership teams and internal stakeholders to continually assess BI needs and turn them into actionable programs
  • Partner with our training manager to keep our BI training programs up to date
  • Help evaluate new and existing technologies

What it takes to catch our eye:

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to present complicated technical information in an easy-to-understand way
  • Deep business intelligence knowledge and experience across multiple platforms (i.e. Looker, Tableau, PowerBI, etc)
  • Expertise in working on both sides of the business analysis divide, between data engineers writing scripts and stakeholders looking for business performance insights
  • Expert-level SQL knowledge
  • Hands-on experience with modern business intelligence, ETL, and data warehousing technologies a plus

The annual base salary for this position in California and Washington ranges from $151,000 - $240,750. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salary for this position in California and Washington, and individual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Additionally, this position is eligible for the annual bonus plan or sales incentive plan and eligibility to participate in our long term equity incentive program.
