ROLE
As a software engineer focused on data & personalization, you will be responsible for building out our data pipeline and executing on the technical vision for how we store, access, and utilize data at Shef. You will identify ways that data can help us grow and contribute to the roadmap for the Data Engineering organization. If we succeed, you will have fundamentally changed how people purchase food and the variety of healthy, affordable, and authentic food that they have access to. This role reports directly to the Head of Engineering and can be fully remote.

RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Think like a Product Manager - Discovering insights, opportunities, and requirements for new features
    • Define and build data-warehouse schemas, implement fact and rollup tables, and build tooling to easily maintain our datastore
    • Establish best practices and frameworks for other engineers to use to make sure that we have insights into all parts of our product and business
    • Establish tooling and analytical frameworks for engineers and non-engineers to understand our business and easily identify key insights and learnings
    • Help to define canonical metrics which will be used across all A/B tests, and will provide insight into user behavior as well as market level equilibriums
    • Setup our first data pipeline - ETL, streaming, and pub/sub
    • Create an easy framework to experiment with personalized models in deciding what we show to our users to optimize conversion and retention

QUALIFICATIONS

    • 3+ years of relevant work experience in data pipelines
    • Experience in ETL pipelines, IDLs, and streaming SQL
    • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
    • Experience with Typescript
    • Demonstrated experience in a technical leadership role

PREFERRED

    • Experience with ML and personalization models
    • Experience with full-stack development
    • Experience with GraphQL
    • Very interested in ownership and product
    • Highly motivated
    • Self-starter who is smart, driven, and hardworking
    • Excited about Shef's mission of unlocking the home-cooked food industry
    • Wants to own a part of the product from end to end - looking at data, coming up with ideas, speccing and launching new products
    • Brings a heavy focus on increasing revenue
    • Experience working on food & restaurant products or online marketplaces
