Symetra has an exciting new opportunity to join our team as an Senior Analytics Engineer!
About the role
As a Senior Analytics Engineer, you will work closely with data analysts, data scientists, and other analytics engineers to provide clean, accurate datasets for use by the team and business stakeholders. You will report into the Analytics Engineering capability team and work day-to-day with our four analytics delivery teams to help deliver actionable insights and solutions to optimize both the top and bottom line while continuously improving the quality of services and offerings to our customers and partners.
What you will do
- Design, build, test, and deploy data models that support multiple analytics use cases
- Build foundational knowledge of Symetra’s products, workflows, and business contexts to anticipate future analytics opportunities
- Be an active member of the analytics engineering community, contributing learnings via writing, participating in meetups, and helping to train others.

- dbt
- Python
- SQL Server (our legacy data warehouse)
- Snowflake (our modern data warehouse)
- AWS
- Azure DevOps for git repositories and CI/CD pipelines
- PowerBI

Salary Range: $97,400k- 162,400k plus eligibility for annual bonus program
Your experience and skills
- You have experience working with data and have an aptitude for learning new data tools
- You are proficient at writing SQL for analytics and know the difference between SQL that works and SQL that is understandable and performant
- You can partner with other team members and business stakeholders to design and implement solutions
- You have clear written communication and like to read and write documentation
- You are curious and interested in solving problems, improving processes, and learning new skills
Preferred industry and specialty experience
- Experience using dbt to manage defining and deploying data models
- Experience using Python to work with data and to automate processes
- Understanding of data warehousing concepts
