About the Role:

PetDesk provides an industry leading app and reminder platform that allows pet care providers to better communicate with pet parents. At its core, this platform is based on data, and we’re looking for an experienced data engineer to help us organize this data in a data warehouse. This data store will primarily consist of PetDesk product and partner data, sprinkled with internal operational data. The end goal is to enable our teams to deliver increased insights and better products toward our goal of improving the lives of both pets and pet care providers.

The primary responsibility of this role is to build and maintain our data warehouse system(s). This includes the full life-cycle of back-end development and data model design. This will also involve significant cloud-based ETL process development. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable with a variety of modern tools and systems including AWS, SQL, MPP databases, ETL task orchestration, and even Python. They should understand effective approaches to managing data and optimizing backend performance with these technologies at scale. This role will work with teams across the company to implement best in class data solutions.

  • Develop and manage data workflows, pipelines, and ETL processes
  • Build and maintain a new data warehouse in the cloud, using modern distributed tools and systems
  • Work with leadership and key stakeholders to craft business requirements and advanced data models, across multiple products and data sources
  • Automate regular data processing to consistently provide high quality data for analysis
  • Provide reliable infrastructure for storing, processing, and visualizing large data sets

About You

  • Ability to design, implement, and troubleshoot data pipelines, with many data sources
  • Expertise with SQL, both querying and database administration (MS SQL and/or PostgreSQL)
  • Experience with SaaS product development, databases, and data models
  • In-depth technical experience with both dimensional and transactional data models
  • Comfortable with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, with containers and/or serverless experience, and a focus on automated data processing (preferably Airflow)
  • Bonus: experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or Looker
