You'll be joining an engineering team passionate about solving difficult challenges processing large scale data and serving it in realtime.

We build high scale data pipelines backed by Kafka and the APIs to serve that data to our dashboards. Our systems are primarily built in Python but when it's not powerful enough or just not the right tool, we use Clojure, Java, C or Lua. We use a variety of database technologies, including PostgreSQL, HBase, Snowflake, MongoDB and Redis. We are seeking a curious Data Engineer to join our backend team on this adventure by helping build the components, systems, and dashboards that newsrooms use for learning and growing their audiences.

As a Sr Data Engineer at Chartbeat, you will be designing, building, scaling, and maintaining our data pipelines, data stores, analysis engines, and APIs. You will primarily be contributing code within a cross-functional team, typically a few engineers, a designer, a data scientist, and a product manager. For large roadmap initiatives, you could function as a technical lead, to architect and lead design discussions, run scrum and make sure the engineers on your team are unblocked. You will also participate in the engineering on call rotation to monitor and maintain the health of our production systems.

About You

• 5+ years of experience as Data Engineer
• Strong programming abilities in Python
• Experience architecting and building data pipelines that support multi tenant usages (particular experience with Snowflake or PostgreSQL)
• A history of working with and building distributed systems (e.g. technologies like Zookeeper, Kafka)
• Expert level knowledge designing APIs
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a commitment to building an inclusive and collaborative working environment
• An interest in designing technical solutions to open-ended product problems
• An interest in mentoring and coaching junior members of the team
• Passion and enthusiasm about learning and teaching new technologies
