Invitae is seeking a Staff Data Scientist to join the team and lead efforts to improve the company's reimbursement performance. Reporting to the VP of FP&A and Business Analytics, the Staff Data Scientist will work closely with leaders in the billing and reimbursement, technology, finance, commercial, and customer experience teams. Over time, this position may expand in scope to include other areas of high strategic importance to the company.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop a structured understanding of opportunities to improve the company's revenue cycle performance from insurance companies through analysis of claims and other data.
  • Evaluate the impact of initiatives under consideration and monitor performance after implementation.
  • Support analysis with statistical or machine learning models as needed to further our understanding of root causes.
  • Design and develop dashboards, models, and presentations to communicate insights and recommendations to leadership.
  • Think strategically about the company's broader business objectives; put proposed initiatives and set analytic priorities in that context.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field such as Data Science, Business Analytics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, or a relevant quantitative field preferred.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in data analysis, preferably in the healthcare industry. Experience with healthcare claims data preferred.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years experience. Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
  • Familiarity with healthcare reimbursement policies and procedures a plus.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Excel. Proficiency in Python for data analysis, model development, and visualization.
  • Experience with statistical and/or machine learning model development.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and think strategically in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas to leaders at the VP level and above.
  • Highly analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills.
