We are seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer - NLP to join our growing Machine Learning team!

You will work on complex and challenging NLP problems that will have an impact on the 41,000+ scientists across the world who rely on BenchSci for their research. Reporting to the Director of Engineering in Machine Learning, you’ll apply your deep domain expertise to multiple mission-critical projects and architect advanced machine learning algorithms for the ML team to implement. In this role, you will have the opportunity to apply state-of-the-art solutions that will shape the future of scientific discovery. 

BenchSci is a remote-first organization. At this moment, we are welcoming applicants from Canada, the US, and the UK for this position.

You Will:

    • Prototype ML Architecture across multiple ML Teams to execute in order to build robust, scalable, and production-ready ML models that enhance the speed and quality of life-saving research
    • Review and approve ML technical documentation to ensure quality and accuracy of performance and results
    • Contribute to the ML roadmap by ensuring project proposals are both highly impactful and technically feasible 
    • Continuously improve our ML workflow by keeping up to date with the latest optimizations in libraries such as PyTorch, and expand our usage of modern tools such as DVC
    • Lead design discussions, apply best practices, diagnose problems and lead the resolution while fostering an inclusive environment 
    • Own the solutions and long-term technology investments that will drive innovation at BenchSci
    • Participate and contribute to sprint planning, estimation, and design/code reviews
    • Provide guidance to less experienced engineers and help to foster a culture of continuous growth
    • Work cross-functionally with different stakeholders including BenchSci's R&D scientists

You Have:

    • A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field 
    • 8 years of combined experience working as a professional developer and as a researcher applying machine learning techniques to solve business problems
    • Established research track record, evidenced by conference or journal publications
    • Strong experience with Python and programming fundamentals
    • Extensive experience with NLP and PyTorch
    • Experience with architecting, building, and evaluating robust and scalable production-ready ML models
    • Experience with complex problem solving and an eye for details such as scalability and performance of a potential solution
    • Experience with data manipulation and processing, such as SQL or pandas A growth mindset and a constant desire to learn
    • Strong cross-team communication and collaboration skills
