About the Role

Hex is, obviously, a company that cares about data, and this role will put you at the center of how we use it to inform our business.

As our first Analytics Engineer, you will be responsible for building our internal data infrastructure, partnering with teams to drive decision-making, and influencing our product roadmap as our #1 Hex Dogfooder

Core responsibilities will include:

  • Build out our internal data infrastructure, using products like Snowflake, dbt, and - of course - Hex
  • Work with stakeholders to define and measure core business metrics
  • Use those metrics to drive analyses that help us understand how we're doing, and partner with business stakeholders to develop strategies for the future
  • Be an internal power user of Hex, and partner with Engineering, Design, and Product to influence features and our roadmap
  • Communicate and train people how to best use our data through Hex
  • Follow and improve our processes for maintaining high quality data and reporting
  • Build upon and document our data models so that data can be connected and analyzed
  • Advocate for improvements to data quality, security, and performance that have a particular impact across your team and the organization
  • Help to define and improve our internal standards for style, maintainability, and best practices for a high-scale data infrastructure

About you

You care about data, and have a passion for enabling yourself and others to ask and answer questions with it.

This may include:

  • Prior experience as an Analytics Engineer (or equivalent).
  • Exposure and expertise with the Modern Data Stack™, including ELT (and reverse ETL), BI, and quality tools. Direct experience with dbt is strongly preferred.
  • Fluency in SaaS company metrics, including retention, churn, and growth levers.
  • Experience with SQL, Git, Python, and various cloud data infrastructure technologies.
  • Passion for building the best version of whatever you’re working on
  • A track record of working autonomously, with strong organizational and time management skills
  • A desire to continually keep up with advancements in data (engineering, analytics, science) team practices
