About the Role

The BizOps org is charged with scaling Hex - that is, helping the company do more with fewer resources over time. As part of that mission, we are looking to make our first hire in our Analytics pillar, to work alongside our existing Data, RevOps, and Internal Ops teams.

As Hex’s first Analyst, you will be the first person at Hex to focus their time on producing analysis as a means to drive outcomes, and would be responsible for developing insights as well as driving the right changes to our product and business based on those insights.

In this role you will:

  • Make Hex data-driven: Develop a deep understanding of Hex’s business and product from a quantitative perspective, and drive decision-making by functional leaders based on that understanding
    • Measure the success of our current strategies, analyze potential iterations to those strategies, and propose new strategies to meet our product and business goals
    • Work with functional leaders to incorporate the right metrics and data into their operational and strategic initiatives
    • Develop and evangelize a point of view for Hex on when to (or when not to!) use quantitative analysis in decision making
  • Find the Gold: Uncover our “unknown unknowns” by performing deep-dives
    • Follow breadcrumbs and small signals to a broad thesis
    • Build a point of view on that thesis and its effect on Hex
    • Communicate that point of view to the company, and work with the relevant Hexagons to adopt that point of view in our tactical and strategic plans
  • Set Hex Up to 10x: Work with the rest of Ops and Analytics to build a scale-ready foundation
    • Work with Data to ensure we have the right tools and models for analytical and operational needs
    • Work with RevOps to bring the right insights at the right time to GTM teams
    • Develop a framework for what should be “self serve” vs. “analyst-led” at Hex, given the Hex product
  • Evangelize Hex and Hex users
    • Write external content evangelizing Hex for analysts, and how we think about analysis
    • Advocate for analysts internally to make sure our product meets our users’ needs

About you

There are a few specific things we’ll be looking for that will help you succeed in this role:

  • 4+ years of experience in Analytics, Analytics Engineering, Business Operations, Strategic Finance, etc.
  • Fluency in SQL
  • Experience building an analytical roadmap and managing stakeholders against that roadmap
  • A demonstrated ability to find high leverage decisions, use analysis to understand and frame the problem, and give decision makers the necessary context to make the decision (and help them to do it rapidly)
  • A desire to continually keep up with advancements in data (engineering, analytics, science) team practices

Some things that are not required, but you will learn on the job:

  • Exposure to and experience with Snowflake, ELT, dbt, and reverse ETL tools
  • Experience with Git and Python (or other scripting languages)

As with all new hires at Hex, you will also need to be:

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, often ambiguous environment.
  • A great team member, who does their best work, supports others and loves giving and receiving feedback.
  • A little weird, and excited to help build a unique, cohesive culture.
  • The kind of person who reads things all the way to the end.
